Value of a Coast Guard Academy Appointment?

Does anybody know what the estimated cost is for a Coast Guard Academy cadet going through all four years at the Academy? What is the given "scholarship" value? I have been looking online but I can not seem to find it anywhere. I was given a piece of paper that said $280,000, but I thought it was more around $300,000... Either way the cost does not really matter to me because I know the experience in itself will be priceless, but I was just curious what the number was... Please anybody jump if you know. Thanks!

$280 is an estimate, and that is the number told to everyone during your presentation at your senior award ceremony.

Thank you for the quick response. I just wanted to double-check that it was right. Thank you so much!

We attended a reception hosted by Senator Chambliss this week and the speaker said $418,000.

Wow! $418,000 that is a big difference then $280,000... That is interesting. Then again these are just estimates of the cost. Thank you for your post.

That number was said to include everything; college, books, summers, medical, pay, etc.....

they said 218,000 at mine......right after westpoint said over 400,000 for another kid... talk about estimates!! it was a nice speech and awards cermony tho

that the estimate includes your health care, and all the other military benefits of service, in addition to the education, books, room, and the costs of summer training experiences.

To clean up an old maxim, "A free education worth $300,000 'earned' a nickel at a time. :D
