Vanderbilt 2023 RD Discussion Thread

This college admissions cycle has been brutal for me so far. Just got waitlisted and rejected from two schools and I was deferred from my ED1 school and rejected at my ED2 school so I’m just hoping by some miracle I get into Vanderbilt.

@justanotherstudent2023 i feel that! it’s been awful. hang in there- i got a shocking acceptance this past week and it made me feel a lot better. it’ll work out. i didn’t believe it all along and now it’s ever so slowly coming together :slight_smile: good luck!

Vanderbilt is S19’s outlier when it comes to type of school. He applied to ten LACs, W&M (accepted), and Dartmouth. Did any of you also apply to liberal arts schools? S19 was always leaning that way but we thought he should have some medium-sized options in the end. He chose Vandy because it’s known for undergrad teaching (more than say Duke or Northwestern) and everyone he knows there is super happy

Just wondering what other schools you all applied to and if Vanderbilt will be a top contender once all decisions are in and why you like Vandy.

@justanotherstudent2023 if there’s anything this process has taught me, it’s that college admissions are unpredictable! I was deferred from my ED school (penn) and then waitlisted at WashU and Emory; I thought I had no shot at any of my top schools, but I got into Northwestern on Friday!!! Stay positive!

@homerdog I applied mostly to schools like Vanderbilt. Most of my schools have 5,000-10,000 students, are in the midwest or east coast, and just have a similar vibe to VU. With that being said, I did apply to Middlebury and Wesleyan just to kinda mix things up a little, in case I had a change of heart and decided I wanted a smaller school in the northeast.

My daughter applied to Vanderbilt as a reach. Overall she applied to several LACs, and some mid-sized research universities (I think that’s how Tulane would be described). I’ve heard feedback from a friend who was a grad student at Vandy and you should definitely tour and get a vibe for the culture to make sure it fits for you. It’s not just about school size.

@chocolatehusky
Congratulations!!! Do you mind me asking about your stats?

Does anyone know how the decision date was announced last year? Did they announce on Instagram? Send the kids an email the day before decisions?

It will be posted on the Vandy Admissions Blog 24 hours before the decisions are released.

@TheGreatAmoeba thank you!
35 ACT, 800 on Math 2 and US History, 6/750, 4.0 UW/4.45 W

ahh i just wish they will tell us which day it will be releasing so I can stop stalking this CC page and then getting disappointed when there hasn’t been an official update

my expectations are really low, considering the past couple decisions I got, but the stress is still so real. This time next week, I will have probably narrowed it down to what school I will be attending (unless some miracle happens with my 4 remaining schools)

@FionaGallagher Hi. Where can I find the Vandy admissions blog? Thank you!!

Just google Vanderbilt admissions blog.

https://admissions.vanderbilt.edu/vandybloggers/

i believe it comes out this tuesday

@kerlykerls I keep hearing that but I think people are just guessing. We don’t know anything officially.

I can assure you that Vanderbilt is not losing student interest by not giving all of the information to the public. They will tell all of us when it is time. Vanderbilt knows what it is doing.

Does anyone know what percentage of the incoming class is filled by ED I and II?

@rshrawg A little over 50% - last year they admitted 852

Hi everyone! I also applied to Vanderbilt RD and it’s my dream (and a reach) school. I got waitlisted by UChicago last week and that put me really on edge for Vanderbilt’s decision. Good luck everyone! (Hopefully Tuesday is the day!)

Same I’m so nervous! I got rejected from Northwestern on Friday and it’s made me really apprehensive of what may be coming this week!
