compscifan, they are all excellent schools.

Harvey Mudd is outstanding and their clinics prepare you well. Not easy to get into. They admit ~250 to 300. They seem to be on a mission to narrow the gender gap like at CalTech and MIT. As I said before, I like Claremont consortium. Pomona is literally across the street. IMHO, It is like going to CalTech/MIT with a better social scene.

A friend who got his PhD from USC tells me that they have a long list of very interesting courses to offer.

UWisc is similar to UCB in many ways. (not implying that it is just as good.) Very progressive/liberal campus. Has strong engineering program. Again, overlooked by many because it is a state university and the “big” city in WI is not that close.

I think applying for ED1 or ED2 significantly increases your chances at Harvey Mudd.

The main thing I didn’t like about Harvey Mudd is its campus. It is in a nice/safe location but the buildings are somewhat ugly. That’s all.

Harvey Mudd is just like a high school, for those who didn’t know.

huh? HMC is like HS? what do you mean?

They admit hardly 400-500 students per year.

HMC is a close-knit, intimate and academically rigorous college known for admitting and graduating the best of the best. It is most definitely not a High School. It is also generous in comparison to other need-aware schools in giving out aid to internationals.

HMC :

Total 26 international undergrads ( just 7 freshmen ) out of some 700 total undergrads ( last yr fall )

Where did you read that? Their website says international fin aid is very very competitive.

^ Personal experience. Two students from my school were awarded very generous aid packages by HMC while they were denied by Duke, NU, CalTech and a few others.

I must add that both were extremely accomplished individuals, although being from England must have helped since the competition from here isn’t nearly as fierce as it is in India.
