Vanderbilt Early Decision for Fall 2022 Admission

Hey there. For those students admitted to Vandy, is there an admitted students day for 2022? Just wondering…

me! lowk nervous

A little admissions nugget.

  • Vanderbilt accepted 24% of their ED I applicants to the Class of 2026. Including the ED I and ED II rounds for the Class of 2025, the acceptance rate was 18% last year.

I did read an article about this stat and it is puzzling. It said that if all things fall as they normally do that would only make room for approx. 300 ED2 applicants…given the same number of ED2 applications in the past cycle. It also stated that this was the first time Vandy deferred ED1 applications, I guess in the past ED1 applicants were either accepted or waitlisted. I wonder if they are tweaking their admissions strategy maybe to up the number of applicants that accept the admission offer…who knows? The article I read did say that the numbers you posted were on a admissions Vandy blog that was retracted so we may never know, but it is an interested admissions nugget to ponder.

Hey, I was accepted into Peabody ED 1. I’m currently undecided but considering majoring in HOD or Cognitive Studies. I have a 3.87 UW/4.2 W and 34 ACT. My stats are pretty average but I think what got me in were my essays and unique extracurriculars.

not accepted. 4.0, great essays, great ECs however it was not enough. I think submitting a competitive test score would have been the difference.

Chance me!
Applied ED2 with
4.6 W/3.94 UW
35 ACT
pretty strong ECs (with leadership) and essays
Studio Arts Major
(Private high school in OC, CA)

I’m having second thoughts after learning about the campus culture, so if anyone has insight on that pls lmk too!

Thanks in advance!!

We have a Vandy current student. What do you mean by culture? They’ve struggled heavily with dining services during Covid- mostly a labor shortage combined with fairly strict requirements that they implemented for safety (feel free to opine on whether they are necessary).

But the culture? Lots of groups to find your fit. Just about everyone cares very deeply about academics and puts in the work. There are the “work hard, play hard” groups that Vandy is well known for, and there are the kids that are very much into clubs. Then there are those who are bookworms. Basically, a typical “elite” type of academic institution locateed on the prettiest campus in an amazing city. I wouldn’t worry. Sure, some people aren’t happy…but during Covid I’m sure that’s true for every school.

Btw, your stats are great. This is of course not any type of meaningful sample size, but it does seem like Vandy LOVES stats and test scores at a higher rate than most.

Does anyone have any idea about how much impact the interview makes on the decision?? I applied ED2!

Hope interviews don’t really matter given we requested one in October and still haven’t heard from Admissions and have followed up several times. I assume that means they are not placing any value on interviews. They are also very clear on the website that these are optional and will not impact the final decision.

Just because they say interviews are optional, it does not mean they do not carry any weight. If you are able to impress an alum or staff interviewer, it still helps your chances. However, if you display a nonchalant attitude or lack of preparation (knowledge of the program you’re applying to), it is guaranteed to hurt you.

The availability of interviews is a function of available manpower. Most elite colleges try to interview as many candidates as possible, so interviews become optional only when they don’t have the manpower to meet the demand.

Good luck!

thanks for the response. We have the same opinion about college interviews that they provide an opportunity for students to impress them. That is why our D22 applied to Vanderbilt RD in October hoping they would find time to interview her before making a decision in late March. However as of today, she has not been contacted and Admissions has not returned her emails. I assume it has to do with limited time and limited interviewers available in our area.

Actually, my D has been an alumni interviewer for Vanderbilt, and the interviews don’t carry any weight for admissions. They are a great way for a prospective student to get answers to questions they may have, as well as to get insight from someone who graduated from the school. But they do not factor into admissions decisions.

I also do alum interviews for Vanderbilt (not this year as my son is a HS senior). The process for getting chosen for an interview is completely random and is in no way an indication of heightened application interest by admissions. A list of names of applicants who have requested an interview gets generated and alum interviewers choose at random. We are always encouraged to focus on the positives of each applicant and invite any questions. I cannot say with certainty that it has zero influence, but unless something dramatic happens, it’s low on the list of factors.
