The GPA is looked at realative to your school. Given your class rank, that should not be a problem. Your SAT’s are really good while your EC’s are lacking freshman and sophmore years. But I’m sure you are aware of all this. Work on you essay and get good reccomendations, these will go a long way. I believe Vandy looks at the whole application and no one area is going to keep you out or get you in (within reason). Statistically you are a little stronger than my second child and very similar to my oldest (his EC’s where stronger). They are both attending Vanderbilt. ED is a definite plus, however, make sure you are 100% certain that Vandy is your top choice. Also with ED (and more importantly), you are committing to attend without knowing your financial package. If you are relying on financial support from the school, this can be very dangerious (Vandy does have a reputation for being generious, but nothing is certain). From your post I am wondering if you are a URM? This would also be a plus as Vandy has worked hard to increase these numbers.

To answer your question, I believe you have a good chance with RD and a very good chance with ED.

Hey, thanks a ton for the reply. A friend of mine who got into Vanderbilt is a practical godsend, so I have been a bit worried. Is being in the top 7% competent for Vanderbilt, and I did have ecs the first 2 years. I was in jiu jitsu, attended 4-5 days a week, went to a few tournaments, nothing major, but I was doing it. I dropped it during junior year in favor of developing my interests more by joining engineering and various other clubs. I also helped co-find a club at my school. A blunt of my volunteer hours also come from the summers following my first 2 years if that means anything.

To space it out:

9th grade- jiu jitsu 4-5 days a week

Summer- Volunteering

10th grade- jiu jitsu 4-5 days a weel

Summer- Volunteering

11th Grade- Engineering for most of the school year ranging from 2 to 6 days a week, co-finding the club, taking part in some other clubs

Summer- Different volunteering

I know I’ve been a bit flimsy with it, but I focused more on studying and developing my interests. It’s really the type of volunteering I did that’s pushing me towards pre-med at Vanderbilt. Also, I’m asian -_-

Be sure to include those EC’s from Fresman & Sophmore years. Does your school rank. If yes then Vandy will take the 7% into consideration. In the past being in the top 10% seemed to put you where you needed to be. Lately that number seems to be comming down as the appliation pool for Vandy is getting stonger. In any case Vanderbilt will look at how you did in relation to their understanding of and experience with your school. I don’t think the top 7% will be a negative nor will it be a positive. They will look at the curriculum you took and that it was challenging. It looks to me like you have done this. A plus is that Asian’s are still under represented at Vanderbilt so this should help. Get some realy good recommendations and write a good essay (try to write something that conveys who you are) and I think you have a very good chance. With your resume I’m certain you will be going to an excellent school. Hopefully it will be Vandy! Best of Luck
