@bsalum I never got a chance to do the interview. My admissions counselor is adding it to my application file!

I’m ED II’ing to Vanderbilt!

@CollegePanda96 Hope it works out and you get an interview opportunity. You could always email the rep for your school/geographical area if you don’t get to meet with someone.

I just got an email from Vanderbilt saying that the reason I never heard back from the interviewer I requested was due to a technical error? They just said sorry it’s too late to fix and reassured that lack of interview would have no effect on my app.

Same @livelovedance97.

Yeah same with me

Same here - did anyone’s CoRP interview request go through?

Mine did, but I requested it earlier in October. My interviewer contacted me the next day.

So yesterday morning I was talking with one of my teachers, and he basically implied that I made a mistake applying Early Decision. I really trust this teacher, and he is usually more than encouraging, so this really caught me off guard. He was trying to give me advice because he thinks that I will get accepted, and he wants me to make the right choice. He knows I applied ED, so the choice isn’t even mine anymore. And I am not sure why he told me this yesterday because I definitely do not have a guaranteed acceptance. In fact, one of the reasons I applied ED was because with a 32 ACT, I figured I had zero chance RD, so at least ED would give me somewhat of a chance (although not high) to attend my dream school. So my chances are small anyway, and now he’s telling me I’ve made a mistake. I don’t know if I should talk to him about it or what. The whole college application season/process is so frustrating and stressful.

P.S. sorry that rant got kind of long…

@ Elizabeth1315 why does he think it’s a mistake?

@CollegePanda96 I think he just wanted me to really consider the rigor of Vanderbilt. (Of course I have.) He had apparently just talked to the mom of one of his former students (one of his best students) who had said that her daughter was struggling. After applying to top schools, she ended up “settling” at UNC-CH. He knows that I could handle Vanderbilt, but I think he just wants me to be sure that I find the right place where I can be successful. And he thinks that applying RD would have been the best possible way to do that. He isn’t so much unsure of my ability as a student as he is the school where I am coming from. To put it into perspective, we sent about half of last year’s graduating class to the local CC, although one went to Duke two years ago.

Vandy won’t accept you if they don’t think you can handle it or you aren’t a good fit. Don’t worry. If it’s your dream school, and they accept you, then be proud and happy. It’s a hard school so you’ll need to work hard, but nothing ever worth achieving happens without hard work. It’s usually the opposite problem…many kids who apply can do well there but don’t get accepted because demand is so high.

@ Elizabeth1315 - You can change your application from ED to RD now if you are uncertain (see below from VU website)

Switching from Early Decision I or Early Decision II to Regular Decision

If you switch decision plans from Early Decision I or II to Regular Decision, you are no longer bound by the Early Decision Agreement. To switch from Early Decision I or II to Regular Decision:

Email your Vanderbilt admissions counselor, stating your intent to change decision plans.
After 48 hours, check your MyAppVU portal to be sure that you are listed correctly as a Regular Decision applicant. If your MyAppVU portal does not show you correctly listed as a Regular Decision applicant, email your admissions counselor, explaining the error.

@bsalum That’s exactly how I look at it. And like you said, many qualified applicants are denied, so I don’t understand why he was talking about it when I haven’t been accepted. I suppose he just didn’t want me to apply ED so I had more time to think about it.

@lorielliott1 I am sure that this is where I want to be, but my teacher is just uncertain about committing early if accepted. I don’t think I want to change, though, because Vanderbilt is absolutely my dream school.

@Elizabeth1315 My son’s guidance counselor told us the same thing. His reasoning was that my son would not be able to compare the various financial offers before making a choice. We concluded that there was a very small chance a financial offer would make a difference.

Son is a member of the Class of 2017. Vanderbilt is the perfect fit for him. He knew it when he visited. He really enjoyed knowing where he was going in December. (It made Christmas shopping easy that year.)

If you know Vanderbilt is where you want to go, then take the small advantage of ED.

yes it did

That’s awesome! I am hopping that we hear earlier this year too! If we find out on the 15th it will be the same day as my final for my call at the University! I see it that if I don’t get in i’m not going to focus on my final and probably go into a deep state of depression. And if i do get in i will be too happy to focus on the exam!

@Go9ersjrh Thank you for sharing that! After I visited, I knew I wanted to apply ED.

@mmnp21 Last year they released decisions the Friday before, so I’m hoping for that!

Honestly, I just want to know either yes or no so I can move on at this point.

it’s going to be a long month
