Vanderbilt ED1 Class of 2019 Discussion Thread

well actually 28 days now. Assuming we hear back on the 15th

Does anyone else get an error message when they log into myappvu? For the past two weeks every time I try to login to check my status it says “error has occurred while processing your request” and none of my financial aid information shows up! Anyone have this problem?

I’m with you guys- this wait is agonizing. I’m so glad we don’t have to wait any longer than the 15th, though!

@classof2015WHS‌ None of my FA info shows up either, but I am able to log in. Have you tried on a different computer/device?

Hi everyone, Prospective 2020 Dore! Just quick question, have any of y’all done vandy summer academy?
Also do you happen to know if it boosts your application?

@Elizabeth1315‌ I’ve tried on my computer, phone, and iPad and nothing works! I’ll call the admissions office tomorrow and ask! Good luck waiting for the next 28 days!

None of my financial aid information is on the portal, but it does say that they have received it.

27 days left!

Finally figured out the problem after lots of emails with the admissions office! I can finally see my application status again.

@Elizabeth1315 by the way, I also applied with a 32 ACT. (2 32’s for a super of 33-if they look at that).

@CollegePanda96 My super score is also a 33! People always say that you need a big hook if you are under that 25th percentile for a school, but no one every really talks about being at the 25th percentile. I mean it’s of course better to be applying at the 75th percentile, but if the middle 50 is evenly distributed, wouldn’t that mean that their class has an equal number of 34s and 32s? I also wonder the stats of the entire ED applicants and how they compare to the RD round.

@Elizabeth1315‌ apparently a lot of the athletes/ people with major hooks apply ed so stats may be lower in comparison

Also based on previous threads, it seems that vandy does like high test scores but then again I’m sure you’re stellar in the gpa department and Extracurriculars!

What would you guys considers a major hook for Vandy?

Trying to pretend the wait isn’t killing me, but I’m dying to find out!

@Elizabeth1315 I know. I mean… I’m within their 50%… but then again… does that even matter? My major “hooks” are: eagle scout, asian-american (first generation living here), cultural diversity experience (lived overseas in Malaysia–where my ancestry is), brother currently attends, and applying ED…

Oh, and I have some things that Vanderbilt “considers” according to their CDS: state residency, geographic residency, volunteer work, and work experience.

Yes i am hoping my ECs (ie, im President/VP for 4 clubs at my school, plus other community service, play 2 instruments, and double varsity in sports) as well as unique experiences (living oversees and presenting a research poster at an international conference) will make up for being under the middle 50, i got a 31!

@CollegePanda96 I’d say those are some pretty good things to have in your file- sounds like nice hooks! The only hook I really have is that I’m a first generation student. As far as ECs, I’ve got leadership positions in clubs, a part time job for two years, and some state DECA awards (I also competed at the International Competition, but I didn’t place it probably won’t help any). I’m hoping my essays and letters of recs will help me out. But I’m definitely not counting on an acceptance.

Sometimes I’m mad at myself for dreaming of a school like Vanderbilt haha :|

My S applied ED to VU in engineering. Working on plan B applications now… UT-Austin, Duke, USC. Where are your plan B’s?

I’m also planning on engineering (BME).

Already been accepted to my safety Clemson and I applied EA to UVA. I’m still working on my apps for Hopkins, Upenn, and Lehigh though.

I’ve probably said this 12 times already, but I’m thinking economics at the moment.

Already been accepted to Whitworth and I’ve still got stuff to do for my WUSTL, Lehigh, UPenn, and CMU apps. Not that I have any more of a chance at most of those than Vandy, but I figure why not.

24 days left though…
