Haha I wish I could! But I’m making soup so…ya leftover turkey is taking precedent XD

I’m watching! I also just read an article titled “Where does 2014 Vanderbilt rank among worst SEC teams of all time?” Hahaha. Oh well, still the only top 20 8->

haha I just think it’s super awesome that Vandy can actually compete in SEC sports. They have the smallest student body and by far the most competitive academics and yet we were National Champions in baseball last year and our football team has been a top contender in the past few years! I mean I’m not one of those people that chooses my college based on their football team, but the school spirit and SEC sports is definitely a plus for me.

Haha ya it’s just yet another thing that makes Vandy pretty infinitely awesome. I got asked for the millionth time last week where I’m applying to college and when I said Vanderbilt this one kid on the baseball team (the last person I would expect to know about Vandy’s mere existence) started going off on how amazing they were. Made me kinda happy and proud and all that.

May I ask where you guys are applying other than Vandy? I am driving myself absolutely crazy thinking I won’t get in and I need some backups. I have many safeties and a reach but not so many match schools! For reference please take a look at my Chance Me thread! I would love some input :)

Whitworth (already been accepted, my safety), WUSTL, Lehigh, Carnegie Mellon, and maybe Penn. I’m a little iffy on that last one, considering I’d be doing it RD, and its Ivy so I don’t really know.

to be completely honest…I haven’t applied anywhere else yet, and if I don’t get into Vandy I’m gonna scramble and apply to Northwestern, Stanford (but the chances of me not getting ED at Vandy and getting into Stanford are reaalllyy slim), UCLA, UVA, Georgetown, and probably Notre Dame!

@cawledgehopeful I read your Chance me and it seems like you have a really great shot! Haha at least I hope you do because we have the same SAT score… but I assume that your internship with that democratic Congressman is going to look really impressive and it looks like you have a lot of volunteer work! I know what you mean, I go through waves where I’m really confident and then I start doubting myself again!

I’m the same way, having basically mood swings when it comes to my confidence about getting in. I’ve been positive though lately!
I keep seeing stuff about Vandy in the most random places that I have no choice but to take as a good signs. Like in 3 different books, and stuff I’ve been watching Vanderbilt just randomly pops up and it drives me insane haha

I’ve been trying to look into my safety school more to get my mind off of Vanderbilt and prepare myself in case of bad news on the 15th.

Prepare yourself for the worst.

I also haven’t applied anywhere else yet, so you’re not alone rebeccaann!

Nice to know! Are you guys applying for the merit based scholarships? I am working on the Ingram Scholarship app that’s due on Dec. 1st but it is taking so long. There are three 500 word essays and 2 letters of recommendation…but I heard that all of the material is added to your application when you submit it and it is looked at holistically. It’s kind of unfortunate that we are required to submit the scholarship apps before we even know if we are accepted but my sister got a full-ride academic scholarship (haha setting pretty high expectations for me) so my parents are making me apply for all of them!

I thought about applying for the Ingram one, but then I realized the community service I’ve done isn’t really super special. I mean, I’m very involved in a high school version of the Lion’s Club and we do service projects throughout our community, but I don’t think it’s all that special. And I’m doing some math tutoring for my senior project, but again, tons of people do that so I don’t really stand out there. Plus I’m terrible at interviews/explaining myself on the spot so even if I did somehow make it to that point, that would be the end.
But wow your sister got a full ride??? Which one did she get?

Oh and I haven’t actually sent in applications for anywhere except Vandy and my safety either. Waiting to see if I need to and preparing to have my dreams shattered come the 15th like @CollegePanda96 said

i think the Ingram scholarship is super cool because it is more than just tuition, it’s a program where you can really go out into the Nashville community and do service! They even give stipends for abroad community service!!! I think that is just awesome! I really want the scholarship because of course the money is great but it seems like a great thing to be apart of. I have really focused my life around helping others and community service and not just for college applications, its something i want to do for the rest of my life! I really hope I get the scholarship!!!

I also very much enjoyed writing my Ingram application!! It was nice reflecting on the community service i’ve done and why i love doing!! The last question is kind of hard to expand on though!

Oh and i am also applying for the Cornelius Scholarship. I figure im not going to get that one but you have to apply for that to get other smaller ones.

My sister got the Cornelius Vanderbilt scholarship! You’re right the Ingram Scholarship is SUPER competitive and I’m not expecting to get it, I’m just hoping that it will be a supplement to my Cornelius application. Haha I haven’t founded a non-profit or raised thousands of dollars…I am the president of my city’s youth community service committee and so I speak in front of the city council a lot about teen issues but the truth is I’ve never really had any significant initiatives of my own…and then I’m also just talking about how I spent a summer working at an orphanage in Kenya. I don’t think I’m going to apply for the Chancellors scholarship because I don’t even know what it means when it says “bridging diversity in your school”.

I’m not applying for any of the scholarships, though I do volunteer with a non-profit and started a club in my school that is affiliated with a bunch of animal activist non-profits. And so far i’ve applied to UWisconsin (as per my dads wishes), UVA, Elon, SUNY Binghamton (I’m from NYC) and USC. I’m also applying to GW, NYU, Lafayette, Wake Forest, Duke and Cornell Regular.

@rebeccaAnn bringing diversity to your school would mean maybe starting a diversity club, one of my schools major clubs, to raise awareness on issues that combat race, gender, religion etc… I go to a private Quaker school so the diversity club founded a Diversity Grant Fund wherein the students and parents raise money to go towards helping students pay for trips, tuition, school related items and etc… I think what they would want to see is just trying to help bring awareness to the people in your community by maybe hosting Lunch and Learns to help the students and teachers understand the issues in modern day society.

I don’t know what that means either. I’ve wanted to go and do something outside of my community but it’s just so hard cause I live in such a rural area. Another reason Vandy is so awesome, all the study abroad opportunities!! I want to do that so bad.
I joke sometimes that to get these scholarships you have to have saved the world from total destruction. At least three times. It’s crazy how selective they are. I think just getting to know the people that do win them would be mind-blowing in itself.
