@CollegePanda96 but if you do get in it will be a great Christmas present!

Wait where did you guys hear that the decision comes out in 11 days? that would be awesome.

Last year the decisions came out the Friday before instead of on Monday, so we are hoping for the same thing this year! Not guaranteed of course.

Yes i am planning on getting all of my christmas gifts based on getting into Vandy!! I’m going to get my parents and grandparents t-shirts that say ‘Vandy Mom’ and stuff like that. Do you know how much being a legacy counts? I really cant imagine that it would help much?

Also i hope the alumni interview will count some! I had an awesome interview with a guy who graduated in 2013! He was even honored as one of Vandy’s top students, so i hope that will help some too! (and yes i researched him before we met)!

From what I’ve heard being a legacy helps quite a bit! I read somewhere that on top of test scores and GPAs, Vandy requires its students to have a “hook” and legacy was included as a hook! @mmnp21

@classof2015WHS do you know that if includes a currently attending sibling?

@classof2015WHS what do you mean they require students to have a hook? every accepted student has some sort of “hook”?

Yes I’ve heard that it does (haha atleast I’m hoping that it does)! But I also read somewhere that last year if the school admitted all legacies it would have had enough to fill the incoming class 3 times. So they obviously can’t accept all of them lol

@contrametum Haha, same here. I don’t post much but I check this multiple times a day, probably more than any social media.

It’s funny because the 2018 thread only had 21 pages including the aftermath.

@CollegePanda96 I’m not sure, I was just curious about it because both my dad and his sister went to Vandy undergrad and Law but I’m sure having a sibling there wouldn’t hurt.

@cawledgehopeful From what I’ve heard, the admissions office really cares about test scores and all but part of the holistic admissions process included looking at each student and seeing what they could bring to the incoming class. Some hooks included volunteer experience, work experiences, and being a legacy.

lol have you guys seen that this thread has had over 21K views?

Does anyone know if they look at all of the sections of the ACT? My scores were all pretty good except for science which was a 29… My combined English/Math was a 33 so I’m hoping this won’t look too bad.

If they want a hook I’m pretty screwed, except that I’ve heard they’re trying to branch out more and get more people from the western half of the US. Haha that’d be the only thing counting for me, being from WA and all. But I also heard they really only factor in hooks if you and somebody else are tied in terms of everything else, and in that case they would take the legacy or whatever.

@classof2015WHS Ohh, I thought you meant a hook as in legacy, under-represented minority, first-generation, etc.

@cawledgehopeful no they counted those too!

@classof2015WHS Haha I mean only those. Just because I’ve never heard of volunteer work or employment experience being included as hooks and I would be surprised if they sought a class of all legacies, URMs, and 1st gens!

Well in that case, at least I’ve done volunteer stuff for the past couple of years (:
