Vanderbilt EDI 2018 Applicants' Discussion Thread

I check the myappvu portal upwards of fourteen times per day. Even though I know nothing will be there yet, I can’t help myself but look. I have been dreaming of this day since I was seven, and nothing I can do today or tomorrow will affect the decision, but I look anyway, and I worry anyway. I know not all of us will be accepted; in fact, most of us will probably not be accepted (myself included); however, please do not let one college’s decision make you think negatively about yourself. Vanderbilt, as with any selective college, is trying to produce a class of future graduates that look exceptionally marvelous on paper. If you happen to fall slightly below their impression of excellence, you can prove them wrong with your future successes and endeavors.

God bless, and may the odds (14-23% acceptance rate) be ever in our favor.
-Abby

you are the sweetest! thank you for your kind words and good luck to you too!

good luck to all of you on here. absolutely cannot believe that the day is almost here.

Abby, all high school seniors should see your post. This is a difficult time for everyone. Even if you are happy, you may have friends who are sad. Even people accepted to their first choice can’t be sure how they will feel . . they often get “buyers regret.” The main thing to think that all of you are doing the best you can do. Try as hard as you can to have perspective at all times and to be kind to yourself whatever the outcome of this decision is.

Abby you just spoke for my heart… I have been thinking the same thing for a week now… We all did the best we could … nothing can change the decisions we’ve made , so better be happy with whatever comes … Thanks !

Good Luck to you and all … I guess within two days they’ll send us the e-mail …

Abby, you are so kind! Thanks for the post; I really needed that. I really hope I (along with y’all) will get accepted; however, if I get rejected, I cannot wallow in misery! As much as I’d love to go to Vanderbilt, it won’t be the end of the world if I don’t. There are so many other great schools out there!
Good luck to y’all! I wish everyone the best.

Abby, I believe they are searching for a new Effie for the next Hunger Games movie. You should try out!

But in all seriousness, that is the best way to look at it. Let’s try an prove our maturity regardless of the results. The kind of people who would even bother to use College Confidential are the type of over-achievers who will be successful not for what college they attend, but how they choose to spend their four years there. We will all get in to good schools and do wonderfully. It’s all what you make of it.

@PiFly it could be then too! No one knows for sure…but Dartmouth EDs found out today at 4pm and Virginia Tech found out today or yesterday. Emory even said there’s would be online at 6pm on Friday! It would be nice to have an exact time haha

Oh and I love all the kind words :)

Hi guys!! I bet you are all freaking out right about now too. I literally cannot sleep, all I have been doing is refreshing my app status. I’m mostly freaking out because I have such a low ACT, have you guys heard of people getting in with a 29? I have a 4.15 w GPA and around a 3.8 uw.
Although my grades/scores aren’t ideal I really make up for them in ECs.
I was the Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Class President. (My school is around 3500 people)
For senior year I am now the entire Student Council President.
Along with Student Council I am:
The Latin Club President
An Emerge (leadership program) facilitator
A representative of the Disciplinary at my school
A Book Buddies tutor (helps tutor students enrolled in Best Buddies
National Honor Society member
A Model UN Delegate for my junior year

@college2018(etc) Haha, I also keep logging into myappvu even though I know the decisions haven’t been posted yet! I can’t currently remember hearing about anyone getting in with that score, but that doesn’t mean no one has gotten in with that score–it isn’t impossible! Vanderbilt IS holistic, after all. My brother got in ED 2 years ago with a great GPA and an SAT score a bit on the lower end of Vandy admits–maybe around 30%?–his only activity was crew (rowing) and a few honor societies.
Anything is possible!!

@saratoga37 It’s just so unsettling, even though I can’t change anything now. These next three days will be killer if it actually comes out on Sunday, fingers crossed for either today or tomorrow!!

Hmm my app vu won’t let me access the webpage at all…maybe that’s a sign?

@college20181995, I know one boy who was admitted to ED1 with an ACT score of 28. He was from a very rich white family in Grand Rapids, MI. But it was three years ago. Vandy is a different school each year.

An admissions counselor (not from Vandy) made the point a few months ago that the more selective the school is, the more unpredictable their admissions decisions can be due to their desire to make decisions holistically. Everyone on this blog is likely within the range of admitted students (based on scores and grades) and the reason for admitting or not will likely be completely unknowable. Not very satisfying, but then again I think everyone has a reasonable chance of being admitted.

I’m getting so nervous waiting… I wish they would just send us an email to know when we learn our decision.

Since other schools have done the online posting at 4 or 6pm, I think Vanderbilt will do that on myappvu today or tomorrow. I will be anxiously checking today, but then I will have to wait another 24 hours if it isn’t posted  So nervous!!

@head2college2018 today?? Don’t know if I can handle that

I really thought the decisions would be out by this evening, but no communication yet. Anyone else keep checking their email/blog/app?? The wait is agonizing, but really want to wish the best of luck to everyone. You ALL are awesome!

I haven’t seen anything on the admissions blog or on my email, so today seems unlikely. Tomorrow, possibly?!

I have the vanderbilt IPhone app and it has listed on Sunday at 1am “admission decisions available”.

I also emailed them and a student worker replied they will be on myappvu Sunday, and if there are problems then Monday. So it looks like Sunday!!! I can’t wait!
