Vanderbilt essay topic--good idea?

I want to write about fencing for the Vanderbilt supplement, but it doesn't have a fencing team--it only has a fencing club. Is that alright? I mean...is it okay to go on and on about how much fencing means for me if it doesn't even have a fencing team? Or are they just looking to see you're committed to something regardless of whether you can pursue it as intensely at college?

Thanks!

Yes, that’s perfectly fine.

Totally fine provided that the essay is something that demonstrates something unique and interesting about yourself and that provides the admissions office a good perspective of you and what you could offer as a student. I’d say go for it since you sound quite passionate about the topic which will help your essay stand out.
