Vanderbilt GPA 3.7 good or bad?

Is a first semester GPA 3.7 a good one? I take physics this semester, and I just feel exhausted as the finals are approaching. It just seems like everyone is smarted than me. I never felt so much pressure in my life.
What kind of GPA is generally considered good at Vanderbilt? What is the average?

Huh? The graduating average is usually between 3.33 and 3.4, something like that. A 3.7 is excellent especially for someone in the sciences at an elite school. Also, if everyone was smarter than you, you probably wouldn’t have a shot at a 3.7. much less, a 3.5 for that matter.

A 3.7 is comfortably in the upper half of the distribution. Struggles in the first year are not unusual at any top school. Good luck.

Looking at the latin honors cutoff points will give you an idea of the distribution …

For students graduating Summer 2015, Fall 2015, and Spring 2016, those who earn grade point averages of 3.724 or higher will graduate cum laude; 3.826 or higher, magna cum laude; 3.915 or higher, summa cum laude.

Summa Cum Laude. Students whose grade point average equals or exceeds that of the top 5 percent of the previous year’s Vanderbilt graduating seniors.
Magna Cum Laude. Students whose grade point average equals or exceeds that of the next 8 percent of the previous year’s Vanderbilt graduating seniors.
Cum Laude. Students whose grade point average equals or exceeds that of the next 12 percent of the previous year’s Vanderbilt graduating seniors.

~25% of kids have a 3.7+. Take that fwiw.

Also, the 3.7 is after senior year, when by that point they’re done with weed outs and classes that work against you. The upper level courses are apparently more gpa friendly

Is the 3.7+ all the schools combined? I know that peabody tends to have higher gpas and engineering tends to have lower.
