I requested an interview for vandy, and the directions say "Please allow three business days for the alumnus/a to respond to your message in order to coordinate your interview. " Exactly how do you know if the alumnus/a has responded? Do you get an email or does it show up in your portal or something? Please help i’m confused… thank you!
They send you an email.
Son got a personal email from local alumni, and they interviewed at the Starbucks down the street. Very chill. Same way for MIT too.
If more than a week goes by without an email from the alum interviewer, I would contact admissions.
I applied this year, and mine emailed me the next day. When I met with her, I believe she said they recieve your name, city, and email when you send a request, so that is how they contact you. Nothing will show in your portal except a notification that you sent a request. It is also very easy to cancel a request and send one to a different person if they do not respond within a reasonable amount of time. After your interview, your portal will also show when your interviewer submitted the evaluation.
Hey guys, not trying to hijack this thread but I also requested an interview yesterday and wanted to know if the interviewer will have access to my application when I request or when we meet? I presume not so in that case should I bring my own copy of my submitted Common Application?
I don’t think they do, but you do not need to bring a copy. The interviewer isn’t making a decision they are submitting additional data ( their impression of you) to the admissions office. It is also a time for you to ask questions. Every interviewer is different, but mine had a list of questions he reffered to. They included things like what I do outside of school, favorite book or movie, and what was something about me that you wouldn’t be able to tell from my application.
Our students brought reduced more compacted versions of their resumes to their college interviews or sent them as attachments in their confirmation of the appointment interviews. The hopes was that some facts made refreshing their memories a bit easier for their letters, especially when a college like say Yale has alum doing a score of interviews in one city. The down side to sharing a resume already submitted to your college is that there is a risk of repeating what the committee already can see. Not sharing any “facts” with the interviewer might result in a fresher take on you in your letter. It is a judgement only you can make, although some alum interviewers will make declarations of being pleased to get the resume and some will refuse it. Absolutely do not bring your application. What you can get across in less than a half hour is all you are aiming for in an interview.
