There is some discussion of med school going on in one of the other active threads and it reminded me that there is a new show coming on USA Network this week that might be of some interest, Vanderbilt MDs. I discovered it by accident when I was reprogramming my DVR to pick up something else for the late showing on Thursday. D sent me the preview today, so I thought I'd share here. I have loved the ABC News medical shows (Hopkins, Boston Med, NY Med) and I'm interested to see if this compares.

Can’t get the edit function to show, but wanted to mention that the preview has some good shots of downtown Nashville so it should be fun to see if they connect with the Nashville vibe.

Hello Vandy Secrets! I am one of the MDs from the new show coming out: Vanderbilt MDs. I signed up for the show because it sounded awesome to have that much money being thrown at me. However, I was wrong to accept it. This show is prying into the lives of real doctors like me and patients. I took an oath swearing that I would protect and help those in need. We follow HIPAA guidelines that give confidentiality to patients records. Watching patients be bugged by producers to sign away their confidentiality is revolting. I hate seeing them almost be forced to let the world know about their deadly diseases. This show is going to further desensitize us from diseases and death. On the show when you see death, it isn’t a joke. These people REALLY did die. This isn’t one of your other crime shows where death is fake. Who wants their death to be filmed for monetary reasons? It is disgusting. I am not going to stay for another season of this show (unfortunately I’m bound to finish out this first season due to binding contracts. I am coming here to talk to the communities that will have the biggest effect, especially Nashville. You guys at Vanderbilt University, where young bright minds are being formed, can see the inhuman ways that this show is going. Please help by not watching the show. Email the producers showing your disgust with it. Don’t let them get away with continuing this show. You guys can help shape the future. Please help me.

Seriously? People believe crap like this? Sophie1295 - first of all, it’s an inappropriate reaction to laugh at “cruel and dismal”. And that’s far from the truth. The purpose of the show is to provide some insight as to what residents experience as they train to work as doctors in this country. Believe me, the University would never allow the exploitation of patients. You really believe someone who says that they violently oppose what the show stands for, citing the Hippocratic oath or whatever nonsense they read on Wikipedia, yet continues to participate because of a “binding contract”. Sounds like someone who wasn’t asked to be on the show and feels as though they were slighted. Don’t believe everything you read. More importantly, if you intend to pursue medicine as a career, watch the show. It’ll give you a better idea of what medical training is like than any guidance counselor could.

Please don’t take it that seriously @jazzyt . I just meant that this show sounded interesting before I saw the negative post on Vandy Secrets. I did not mean to offend anyone at all.

I cannot say how much truth there is to this post and of course, one would have to watch the show to form any valid opinions about it. I don’t believe anonymous posts on Facebook (or College Confidential) blindly. I just thought of sharing a post I saw on Vandy Secrets.

I have to say I found the first episode interesting and I generally don’t watch reality shows. I would not have known about it if the negative post hadn’t been posted here. I say watch it for yourself and don’t let one poster sway you. The University has to sign off on the production since it is filmed in their hospital. Also each patient and their family would also have to agree to being part of the production.

I just finished watching the second episode and found it better than the first. USA has moved it from the 10 pm CT timeslot to 5am CT on Saturday morning. The first episode was a little cheesy on the personal side of things, but this second episode was much more professional in the orientation and less personal, although there is a little drama. I’ll keep watching.

I’m surprised it was moved to the early morning timeslot. I went looking for it on Thursday and it wasn’t there. I guess that’s what DVR are for.

@GO9ersjrh, it appears that’s where it will air next week as well, so I’m guessing it’s the permanent home for the show. The original time of 11 pm ET/10 pm CT was not conducive to ratings, but I guess they are just running out the clock airing it in the obscure time slot.
