My daughter received MOSAIC invitation today from Nebraska. She is super excited.
Got it this afternoon!!! A complete surprise!!!
Never have heard about MOSAIC before, I decided to do a little digging and ran into mixed opinions on the event. So are y’all going???
I haven’t been able to find much info at all about the event. Do you have any links?
@collegeapps2k14 My bad, I didn’t mean it to come off sarcastically or anything. I was just surprised that Asians were invited to attend, and I get what you mean since I applied to Rice as well. It is definitely a healthy shift away from the typical image of “diversity,” which is great.
@timewarptrio Oops, I closed all the links after I read them, but I do remember a few informative ones. If you search “Mosaic vanderbilt” on google, you should find one article posted on VandyTorch (a university publication I assume) on 2010 or 2012 and a few links to college confidential’s past discussion on Mosaic. Their official twitter and facebook weren’t of much help.
ok, so if I didn’t get invited to Mosaic, does that mean I probably won’t get admitted? It looks like 100% of mosaic invitees get accepted. Do we know how many multicultural applicants are invited?
There are 250-300 invites @soapymango. They reiterate on their website that you could still be admitted.
@Benzy50
Do you have a link? I couldn’t find it when I scanned the site.
Thanks for the info btw
“The program is small and due to space limitations, we cannot invite all multicultural students who we will ultimately admit. In other words, don’t panic if you didn’t receive a MOSAIC Weekend invite! It is still possible to receive admission to Vanderbilt’s Class of 2015. Case in point, there are many Early Decision students who did not receive MOSAIC invites (but they will absolutely be part of our Class of 2015).”

Any possibility of getting it today?
@ysr2009 Yes, very much so. Last year and the year before, multiple recipients received invites days after the main group. USPS is not always reliable Good luck!
@SoapyMango I did a little digging, and it turns out 300 applicants are invited to the Mosaic program with 200 open spots. Given the 3900-ish admitted freshmen last year, really it’s a small proportion of admitted students that are getting invited.
We got it today!!! DS is very excited but I’m not sure he’ll go to MOSAIC, tickets are really expensive and Vandy is offering only $100 reimbursement. He doesn’t feel too bad about not going though since we just visited the campus in December. The early acceptance part is the most exciting! Good luck to everyone still waiting, don’t loose hope, USPS is kind of slow
@coolmom3 Congratulations! Nothing here yet, hoping for something tomorrow
@coolmom3 Congrats!!! I am not sure about going either. The event has got pretty mixed reviews (more negative feedback from my search).
@Benzy50 Thank you and really don’t loose hope, every year there were people getting their letters 5-7 days later, I hope you are getting yours soon!
@BluCyanide - I would love my DS to go if the tickets were a bit cheaper, even with the mixed reviews I believe it would totally worth a visit. However, we visited Vandy twice, once last summer and this past December and had very different experience. It all depends on so many factors, (i.e. the admission officer giving a presentation or the student tour guide). Our December visit completely changed our perception of Vanderbilt and my DS truly fell in love with it. I believe that an overnight visit along with sampling a class would be even better.
I got my MOSAIC invite along with Chancellor’s Scholar notification today and I’m in Illinois, so yup you could still get it! I’m really excited!
still waiting and hoping. Thanks to all for contributing information to this thread. Congrats to Mosaic invitation recipients.
@Imaobakwaas, Congratulations!
My freshman D is going to host a MOSAIC participant, and she is so excited to show her this wonderful campus that she has completely fallen in love with.
I’m sorry to hear about all the negative reviews. D’s best friend did MOSAIC last year, and said it was a wonderful experience that really pushed Vandy to the top of her list. I hope all of you that can attend have the same experience.
@BluCyanide Ah, I saw the article. Thanks.
I’m not sure if I will attend. It will be expensive, although we can ask for reimbursements. I do want to visit, though, because I have never been to Tennessee.
