Has anyone received an invitation to Mosaic this March? If not, does anyone know when the invitations will go out?

Thanks for the link.

Do kids admitted via ED get invited to MOSAIC or is it for recruitment purposes (obviously ED kids need not be "recruited")?

This is Thom from Vandy Admissions,

Actually dwhite, your question is well timed. We will be inviting admitted ED students of color for the first time this year. MOSAIC is both for multicultural recruitment as well as an important early community building program. So we didn't want to leave ED students out of that.

I believe it is for RD kids only.

Thank you VU admin. for the quick response. Is there also an "accepted students weekend"? for all admitted kids later in the spring?

We host "Vanderbilt & You" admitted student receptions in 30+ cities across the U.S., and there are open houses hosted by Vanderbilt's academic schools for admitted students. The full schedule of events, and how to register for them, will be included in the "Open 'Dores" admit packet we send out.

Thanks so much for the info VUAdmissons, that's very cool that admissions officer are on this site!

Anyway, I know this sounds like a very odd question, but who is "invited" to MOSAIC? Is anyone who is part of a minority group, such as Asian, African American, Native American, etc., invited? I am Native American and, thus, am quite nervous and interested about this event!

When is it held and what do attendees do? Is it basically an "Admit Weekend" for culturally diverse admits? This would be great for me because I've not had a chance to visit campus!

^Due to space limitations we can't invite all students of color (African-American, Native American, Hispanic, and Asian-American) we will ultimately admit into this next incoming class. We use a selection process that utilizes many of the same principles used in the admssions process (a holistic mx of academics, leadership & involvement, etc).

The program involves being hosted by a current VU student and features sessions on intellectual life at VU by our academic deans and faculty, discussions on support services for students of color, a variety show (spoken word, singing, dance, etc) by the major cultural student orgs @ Vandy, as well as the Vanderbilt NPHC step show, which is planned to coincide with the weekend. Hope this helps.

Thanks again.

By the way, just a clarification, people should be getting invites by mid-week or so, right? Mid to late week I'm assuming?

That's right.

Okay, thanks.

Has anyone received an invite yet? I understand that the invites were mailed Tuesday? So anyone close to nashville receive one yet?

VUAdmissionsTCG - I realize this thread is about Mosaic, but when will finalist for the Cornelius Vanderbilt be notified? Also, would you mind addressing the Lanier scholarship, my son was told it was no longer necessary to apply separately, but then someone else with lower stats, ecs, leadership (I mean in every case) was given an interview. What gives? Thanks:)

pumpkin5 - I'll post something on the Cornelius Hopefuls - 2013 thread about CV notifications. As for your son and the Lanier, I can understand your confusion/frustration, but I don't know if I have any answers for you. It's often difficult for us to unpack these decisions after they are made [although we try], as we look at several different factors, some tangible (stats, etc), some intangible. Sorry I can't offer more.

:-) I got my invitation today.

Congrats anonssc! Do you live close to Tennessee? I'm from Massachusetts and I'm guessing (if I were lucky enough to be invited) the invite would not arrive for several days after it was sent from Nashville.

Congrats again!

Nope, I'm from Pennsylvania. Unfortunately I won't be able to go to Mosaic because I'm busy that weekend, but it's nice to know early.

congrats anonscc, i got one too. i live in south florida but wont know if I will be able to attend yet
