Vanderbilt? Or any other top colleges?

Ok to start off I am an African American male that has a 3.79 gpa unweighted and a 4.7 weighted gpa. My class rank is 15th out of 469 students ( top 3%) and I am currently officiated with swim team for 4 years, beta club, national honor society (treasurer), Spanish national honor society, I was elected class treasurer and will speak and sit on stage at graduation, in the Spanish immersion program and is very fluent in the language. I am in key club and have over 150 community service hours. I am going to to Africa to work with little children and study their lifestyle and culture and have taken 7 AP classes total passing 5/7. I for a 28 on my act for the first time and plan to take it again next month. Be honest do I have a chance and if so what %? And at which schools? Thanks!

Nobody can give you a percent (some sites will, but individuals will struggle to). I don’t know too much about Vanderbilt, and when you say other top colleges I am assuming you mean ivies and other top 25 schools (correct me if I am wrong). Your GPA is a bit on the low side (though if you have an upward trend I would not worry about that too much). Also your ACT is low for top schools (you should have at least a 30).

I am noticing a lot of grammar issues in your writing. This would stand out as an issue since it makes me assume your essay will be weak grammatically and/or you had a low score on the writing portion of your ACT.

I don’t think you have anything that makes you stand out, but the fact that you are an URM will help. I would apply to one or two “top schools” if I where you, though I would say that your chances are slim and suggest you apply to other schools that would be more of a match/safety.
