@Go9ersjrh- I’m really going to miss the move-in crew this year! Did they have luggage carts and/or dollies available for use during the move in?

There are a few in each upperclassman dorm but usually in pretty high demand.

I think S was the only one moving in to his dorm today. They found a luggage cart, but the elevator call system wasn’t working. S figured out if he went to his floor and called the elevator it would come up. His dad would put things in the elevator and then call S to press the button. Vandy is also retiling the showers on his floor so he’s going to have to find another shower.

S is off to band camp. The furniture is all in place, but nothing has been put away. His dad will be back tonight to help him put everything away. It is easier to do, when you can put everything in the hallway since there is no one else around.

My son is on the first floor in Branscomb so we won’t have to deal with an elevator at least. Which day is busiest for the upperclassman move-in?

Go9er… We had the same thing happen! It was a very frustrating move-in. No keys, signs pointing to wrong places, and then the elevator not working. We did the same thing… Sent the girl up 5 flights and she pressed the button. Not ideal. But we had a lot of laughs

I will never forget the freshman move-in to Branscomb. S was on 7th floor Lupton. 2 elevators and significant demand for them had me climb those 7 flights, but just once. I walk 2 miles each day, but I was not prepared for that stair climb carrying things. We had limited move crew assistance for the first load, but had to unload the car and someone then had to stay with the stuff on the front sidewalk until it could all be transported upstairs. Kids both did move crew later and I have read the accounts on CC, seen the videos that VU public relations posts, etc. It is obviously a much smoother process now. Wishing everyone a great move-in weekend!

We’re leaving tomorrow morning for the drive to Nashville … good luck w/ move in everyone! Safe travels!!

@KaMaMom: We will be on the road with you! Honk if you see a Vanderbilt sticker on an overloaded SUV.

Still debating whether to bring the fridge or not…

@mimama lol! That sounds EXACTLY like our SUV … except the debate over the fridge has been settled. It’s coming. :)

We will be joining @KaMaMom and @MImama on the road. Both fridge and microwave are packed. DS’s roommate will be flying in so I over packed just in case.
I am so excited and anxious for the moving day. Save travels!

Flew in last night and took a drive over to campus to take a look around. Tents are up and the excitement is in the air. How is it possible to be do excited about something and dread it at the sane time?

On the road to Vanderbilt now! Somehow managed to fit all of our stuff in our Ford Edge, including suitcases for the 'rents. Since neither roommate ever got back in contact, we’re waiting to get a fridge/microwave until we get to the school to avoid redundancy.

High of 91 and party cloud for move in day. No rain in sight. Have fun!

I cried as we drove through Bowling Green. And just had a mini breakdown in the hotel room. Ugh. This is horrible!! I’m so sad and yet, so excited for her!

@KaMaMom - Sounds like a normal mom reaction. I can tell you as the mom of a sophomore, this year was a lot easier.

Picked up books at the Commos tent today. Seemed very unorganized and hardly any students were there. Can’t imagine what it will be like tomorrow. We got everything so will stay as far away from tents tomorrow as possible! I am sitting in the hotel lobby with a Starbucks frappuchino while my daughter reads Salvage of the Bones upstairs in the room! Has everyone else’s kids finished the book?

Anybody else staying at the Vanderbilt Marriott? Any CCers staying overnight Saturday night who want to get together and have a drink to keep from sobbing alone in our rooms? It is going to be very sad. Not looking forward to it and the long drive home on Sunday after breakfast with our kids.

All those move-in videos on youtube are 1000% true!

We were in the staging area parking lot at 6:50a for our 7am move in time. Someone came up to the car, swapped the registration card for a key … sat in the lot for about 10 minutes waiting our turn in the cue to pull up to Gillette.

Literally as soon as we pulled up to the dorm, (amidst loud music & cheering kids!) 10-15 kids swarmed the car and took EVERYTHING. By 7:15am every single box was in the room. It was AMAZING.

Couldn’t have gone any better. Major props to Vandy for freshman move in!

The only thing worse than saying goodbye to your kid is being at home hearing about everything second hand! go2dad is with go2girl while I man the fort at home with go2boy and go2dog. My work is very demanding right now so it would have been tough to get away and since go2girl left early for her retreat, it didn’t make sense for all of us to pay $800 a pop to fly out. It’s hard to be on the sidelines. Getting some photos and go2girl’s roommate’s mom has been awesome keeping me updated. So glad the girls found each other because they seem like a perfect match. It all seems to be falling into place.Enjoy every moment and take comfort in the fact that you did a great job supporting your student to this point and getting them to Vandy. This is EXACTLY what they are supposed to be doing right now. Pat yourself on the back. I’m cyber-toasting you all from afar and hope to meet up with all of the CC’ers at Family weekend.

@go2mom I sent dad and son this year to move in. They were nice enough to set up the computer and skpye me while they were setting up his room. I at least felt apart of the process.

We need to think about a meeting place for family weekend.
