Vanderbilt University or Northeastern! Help me decide

I am torn between Vanderbilt and Northeastern and honestly have no clue which to choose. I am a mechanical engineering major. I have essentially a full ride to Northeastern and very cheap tuition at Vanderbilt (7k a year). Engineering is more popular at Northeastern, but Vanderbilt is a better school and a prettier environment and also has good engineering programs. I know Northeastern co-op program is unique and full of opportunities, but I worry that there are better opportunities at Vanderbilt. Northeastern is closer to home and cheaper (both of which my mom likes) while Vanderbilt is a flight away. I adore both schools and know that Vanderbilt has an incredible student life while still offering strong programs and opportunities, while Northeastern has better aid and is close to home with good programs as well. But I have no clue what to do!!! seriously any help is appreciated.

ALSO, let me add a few other factors (some small ones, but i will include nonetheless) : Northeastern is in Boston, which is cold, and not my favorite as I would prefer warmer weather. Northeastern does not have a football team, which is also a little upsetting. Vanderbilt is 15 min away from my favorite place, Tropical Smoothie Cafe:). Vanderbilt would require a flight which could get expensive. PLEASE HELP! thank u if you are still reading this, I know it’s a lot:)

Just based off of US News rankings (you can argue that these aren’t very accurate but I find them helpful), Northeastern is ranked #46 in Engineering while Vandy is ranked #34. I’m not sure if that’s a huge deal to you, but it may help guide you to a decision.

However, money does make a huge difference! With a near full-ride scholarship to Northeastern, you have to ask yourself if you’d really be willing to pay $28k (plus flights, books, etc) for Vandy.

Another thing to consider is that Northeastern has an enrollment of around 13-14k while Vandy has 6-7k students. Do you prefer a smaller or bigger campus?

Just based on your paragraph, though, I get the sense that you’d enjoy Vandy a lot more. It has the sports, opportunities, weather, AND student life you’re looking for. You might regret not going there!

I’d suggest writing out a pros and cons list to help you weigh your options. If I were you, I think I’d go with Vandy, but that’s just me!

If your family can afford the $7k per year, definitely Vanderbilt – especially since you might end up switching out of engineering. Northeastern is a great school, but Vanderbilt is at another level. Fit is important, so rankings are not everything, but you seemed to like Vandy. Seems the clear choice.
