what school do you think will be better in the next few years, or what one is going to improve more than the other and what one may go downhill? i'm looking closely at these two...does anyone have any links to old usnews rankings?

There are countless threads on this topic, do a search.

What major? I'd go to Emory for pre-med but Vandy for anything else due to the girls and the fun.

it says that vanderbilt's middle act score was 29-32 for the class of 2012 (on their website)..that seems low i was expecting it to be 29 or 30-33...could this affect their rankings negatively?...im just saying as far as the undergraduate ranking is concerned, does ones future look brighter than the other? i know emory has a much larger endowment

Are you serious? That's one point on the ACT.

I like both schools, but they offer different experiences. Vanderbilt is D1 sports and the frat scene is big. Athletics are a key part of the Vanderbilt experience. The school has a more southern feel than Emory does. Emory has great networking in Atlanta, obviously, but both schools are very well-respected, especially in the south.

After completing this process and both schools were at the top of my D's list, I have to laugh....IMO, the only thing similar about these schools is the general location of the country they are in...If you do your research, visit the schools, examine the demographics of the admitted class(s), and look at the strengths (and weaknesses) of both, you will agree that they are VERY different; both great, but for very different reasons......

Vandy's Greek scene is annoying at best. They do have a good sports culture if that's what you want.

Emory = Pre-med Domination. Gozieuta??? is also a pretty good business school. D3 though, and I think it's also a bit smaller than Vandy.

I'd personally go to Emory. I think it's a more refined institution that gives a better UG education. That's my obvious personal bias showing.

I always laugh at this video on Youtube another partisan Vandy guy posted...search Youtube.com for "fun at Emory"...;)

what about washington university in st.louis vs emory? what one would you pick between those two? so far emory has the edge over vandy

^ Is one option cheaper for you? Both are comparable.

In the big scheme of things, whether someone goes to Vanderbilt or Emory probably won't make a difference. I think most people would agree though that Vanderbilt's a much more fun place.

same price..emory or washu in stl?...emory seems more well known and prestigious?

Longhorn, on Vandy's website, the ACT range of 29-32 was for the Class of 2010, not the class of 2012. This was posted on the Vandy Admissions blog, concerning accepted students:

As far as some statistics on the admitted students for the Vanderbilt class of 2012:

* 23% overall admit rate (Regular and Early Decision I & II combined)
* SAT middle 50%: (CR & M) 1380 - 1540
* ACT middle 50%: 31-34
* 92% of all admitted students were in the top ten percent of their high school's graduating class

Emory is richer. And as a Yankee devil I'd say Emory is taken more "seriously" than Vanderbilt...

Being from New England, I'd say that I know more Emory grads than Vandy grads. However, both are very prestigious. Personally, sports seem to be better at Vandy, and Vandy seems to have better combined (i.e. BA or BS and MD, JD, MSW, MEd. etc.) programs. However, Emory is much more Northern in terms of feel (Atlanta is more cosmopolitan, it seems, too).

thanks.what schools future is looking brighter as far as rankings are concerned? what one keeps moving up compared to the other?
