OP: There are probably like 30 or 40 Vandy vs. Emory threads in the Emory and Vandy forums. I’d probably check those out even though some of the opinions and comments are obviously bias.

I’d have more fun at Vandy but I’d apply to Emory first.

Emory’s PA = 3.9*

Vandy’s PA = 4.0*

Both have top-notch academics, and provide a plethora of opportunities. The main difference is social fit, IMO. Or, take whichever offers more money. (Vandy’s no-loan program is real sweet.)

*At least until next week. :)

Yep, and all have higher PA scores. :D

Vanderbilt definitely has far superior name recognition, which I would think in turn leads to more prestige. I’ve actually spoken with recruiters for smaller i-banks and asset management companies on the west coast (san fran and seattle) who had never heard of Emory. The thought that Vandy’s student body isn’t as serious as Emory’s is ridiculous also. I spent a large amount of time on Emory’s campus interacting with their student body due to a girlfriend. There were a lot of rich kids from the northeast only concerned with how much alcohol and coke they could consume on the weekends. There are fairly large party factions at both schools relative to their peer institutions in ranking lists. The differences mainly lie in the fact that Vandy has a very southern vibe while Emory is predominantly Northeastern and one of the strong Jewish colleges in the south.

Thanks everyone for all the feedback - it helps! Can anyone speak to the managerial studies minor at Vanderbilt? My BIG decision right now is whether to ED Vanderbilt or Emory. The only thing stopping me from proceeding with Vanderbilt is that Emory has a BBA program. I do think that eventually I will go on for a MACC or MBA but am worried about job/intership right out of college. Thanks again - it really helps!

M&B:

you can take accounting courses, and earn a CPA, from courses at a juco. If you are concerned about jobs in biz, major in econ at Vandy. IMO, a liberal arts-type degree can take you farther. You do not need an undergrad biz degree to get an MBA. But, an accounting degree will be necessary if you want an Master’s in acctg.

can you still get a MACC without a BA in Accounting? Can you get there with a BA Economics?

Go with Vandy because they have the babes.

Maizeblue, if you are interested in getting a MACC I would choose Michigan over Vandy or Emory. Vandy vs. Emory is an individual choice. The schools are very similar and the posters are not going to help you decide much. It would help if you could do an overnight visit to each and figure out where you fit in the best.

Emory if you want to go to a pretty standard “prestigious” school in a weird part of Atlanta, Vandy if you want to be in the SEC and work hard/play hard in a great part of Nashville.
