I've recently been reading through some posts about Vanderbilt's Pre-Med courses and they're beginning to frighten me. Why is it that Vanderbilt's Pre-Med track is so extraordinarily difficult and how does it compare to the difficulty of Pre-Med in other schools of its calibre?

For one thing, the math courses are somewhat difficult (Math 155A and Math 155B).

…I have a friend there who has a 3.9 cumulative in the premed course. She says it’s not that bad and that she even had time to rush (she’s a sophomore in some house now).

Then again, she is a CV scholar and incredibly smart.

There is no pre-med at Vandy. You can major in anything you want, as long as you complete the coursework required for med school admissions. If you are referring to the difficulty of those required courses, that is par for the course at many schools. Several of my D’s friends who attend UMich just got admitted to med school … their required courses were ridiculously hard, so it’s not just Vandy. They survived, as you will … it takes hard work, but if you can’t do it, I don’t want you to be my doctor. :)
