i was just accepted to both of these schools. Currentyl I am leaning toward Colgate but only for what my parents say are the wrong reasons (More outdoor recreation opps, especially skiing, rural setting, smaller student body). I'm undecided but strongly considering International Relations. Do you guys know of any solid reasons to pick Colgate over Vanderbilt?

i think that those are perfectly valid reasons to want to go to Colgate over Vanderbilt!

The IR program at Colgate is quite good and enjoys an excellent reputation -- It's a good one to dual major in with either Poly Sci or Econ.

Vandy also has hotter girls

Thanks betterday55, too bad I'm a girl. LOL

My daughter HAD to attend a college where she could ski. She hasn't been once yet this year.
I tried to get her to look at Vandy. Great school and I like the area. Probably why I wanted her to apply. I would have an excuse to visit old friends and play in Nashville. Who said I didnt always put my children first, Regardless, she would have nothing to do with it. Maine, NH, NY, CT, Mass period. Not even a peek at Swath to make me happy.
Go where you think you'll be happy.

The southern culture is very different. Have you visited Vandy?

Fwiw- If you dont like the area where you attend college, youll be miserable. I, too, needed a college where I could ski. Although, unlike my daughter, I actually made it to a chairlift.

Its impossible to actually tell for certain until you spay them down with a hose. Most wear enough makeup to hide myriad facial flaws (read, ugly under the mask)

So are all the students at the womens colleges, but many appreciate attractive females?

No insinuations intended :P

vandy girls are hotter, but colgate girls are very hot as well- the girls at each school are 100x better than those of cornell thou

its really hard to get into the intro international relations class...my friend that goes there went in thinking he was gonna be an ir major and decided against it after getting shut out of it again for the first semester of sophomore year. theres a huge wait list to get in...i think he said about 70 kids.

xLxJxCx, are you talking about Colgate's program? or Vandy? Either way, that is very interesting, I've never heard that before.

colgate...sorry i forgot to specify :)

I am a Senior at Colgate as well as an IR and Spanish major. IR is a great major because you get to take classes in a variety of subjects, such as language, econ, history, and posc. I have had wonderful professors who are engaging yet challenging. There is also a study abroad program for IR and other majors in Geneva, if you are interested in that!

Wow, emi520. That sounds really cool. Thanks for sharing.
Have you ever had any trouble getting the classes you wanted, like what xLxJxCx was posting about (post #8)?
