Help me make a decision, please. Unfortunately I got admitted into a lot of schools, so now I have to actually choose between them. I value warm weather (although snow is good as long as its not too much). I also love sports. I ideally would like to double major in computer engineering and marketing/finance. I realize this is an impossibility at Vandy, though, because of the lack of a business school. However, I'm not sure if in the end I'll be able to handle the workload anyways and I am perfectly content with going to grad school to finish the other half. Other schools in contention are BC, Wash U, and potentially UNC, although they are considered slightly behind these two for these reasons:

Wash U: No Athletics, St Louis maybe too close to KCMO for own good...
BC: BC is cold like UMICH, but UMICH>academically I believe
UNC: Similar to UMICH, but academically UMICH is superior. Plus, I am on the waiting list and not even sure if I am in. However, UNC is warmer than Michigan. Also, UNC is not located next to a big city like the other four, which could mean a lack of things to do/ lack of a music scene.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

I am actually deciding between Vandy and Michigan too. I'm 90% sure i'm attending Vanderbilt after having visited both schools this weekend. Michigan is a really huge environment. The classes are much larger, I even walked into a lecture hall of 1000 people and overheard a girl coem in and say she was still drunk from the night before. Personally, I dont want to be able to disappear into a class like that, and I know at Vanderbilt I won't be able to. The accepted students presentation was really fantastic at Vandy and made me want to be in the intellectual environment that Vandy is. Also, the Ross school of business at Michigan is hard to get into and leaves little room for options such as going abroad. And, if you choose to major in economics instead of the bus. school, the dept. is huge, the biggest at UMich and classes never get small, even upper level. It is super-competitive and students have to work hard to get b's. Vanderbilt has all that Michigan offers, obviously not as sport-centered, but still SEC sports, city resources, great reputation that's only increasing, warm weather (mich gets freezing). overall, i think vandy is the best option. hope that helps

tuckerbro, my son faced this same decision and he will be attending Vanderbilt in the fall. I am a Vanderbilt alum so I will admit some bias, but I also went to law school at a Big Ten school and have always had tremendous respect for Michigan. My son's view of this was similar to jcollege123. The class size and student/faculty ratio at Vandy are important advantages in my opinion, ones that outweigh the greater variety of course offerings at a school like Michigan. The interaction with professors in those smaller classes at Vandy was invaluable to me when I was there, and I still remember those classes as some of the best I ever had. Also, one of the great things about Vandy is that you will be going to school with people from all over the country. Michigan probably has as much a national spread as any state school in the country, but it would not be the same as Vandy. Good luck!
