Assuming your child is intending on majoring in a liberal arts major within the college of LSA, or in Business, graduating in 4 years is very possible. Even graduating from the CoE is possible in 4 years, especially if your child comes in with lots of AP credit.

^^^That is probably true. In the old days, most students didn’t come in with many AP credits. I’m talking last century! ;-)

Opie, I don’t blame you a bit The best way to make sure that happens is to tell said kid the money stops at the end of the 8th semester (unless in ENG) no matter what, then take a peek each year at the distribution requirements to ensure he’s on track for graduation. Even with the excellent counseling available, some kids don’t fully appreciate the consequences of class choices 4 yrs later and are so excited by the plethora of classes available want to take it all. This phenom, of course, is not exclusive to Michigan, and I know several parents dealing with it now at other schools (our kids are seniors.)

In my son’s program, which is highly sequenced, the counseling has been outstanding in this regard, and the registrar (school of music) meets with students regularly to ensure they’re on track. If we’d have “let” him, I suspect my son would take another 40 credits just for fun ;)
