Trying to decide between Rodman UVA (out of state) vs Georgia Tech and Vandy for BME. Any suggestions?

Vanderbilt by a mile. Not even close.

The difference between a Vandy thread and a UVA thread is that people on the vandy thread post either semi-helpful comments or nothing at all. On a UVA thread you’ll get a number of posts that equally weigh both sides. An exception to this rule is the Emery vs Vandy thread which is pretty good.

There’s a Vandy vs UVA thread I posted a month on each page, feel free to check them out. The one on the Vandy page is (surprise) not very helpful though.

I agree, not even close.

All 3 are great schools so go to the one you like best. That being said, GT definitely has the strongest BME program (top 3 in the country) with great facilities, innovative curriculum, lots of impressive research and a close relationship with Emory and their hospital.

Vandy engineering is also strong (though not as strong as GT) and Vandy may offer other advantages because their program is smaller (pros: better advising, etc cons: less class offerings) and because there is a larger variety of electives (esp in the humanities).

What are your eventual career goals? These schools attract different companies to recruit on campus so if you have an idea of what type of job you want/company you want to work for, you may want to check with the schools to see if these companies recruit on campus. You may care about this a lot 4 years from now.

These academic differences are something you should take into account, but because all 3 are great schools the social ‘fit’ differences may (and possibly should) dominate your decision-making.
