Vandy, WashU, or Texas

Hi everyone,

I'm faced with a pretty big dilemma here on which of these three excellent schools to choose and I figure that you could help me decide. I am into the Olin School of Business and Engineering School for WashU, I got into Engineering Honors at Texas (my home state), and was Waitlisted at Vanderbilt for engineering. I applied engineering to all three schools but am not sure that it is truly what I want to do. My next option would be business or economics. Assuming I get into Vanderbilt, which of these schools do you think is the best for what I want to do. I also care a lot about the social scene at each school and am looking to join a fraternity most likely. I know WashU is ranked the highest on US news and World Report but Vanderbilt is closely after. My biggest complaint about WashU is that I hear a lot of the people there tend to be introverted and I don't know if I would have a lot of fun there. As for Texas, the engineering school is great, and ranked very highly, but I don't know how it compares to those of WashU and Vanderbilt. Also at Texas, even though I love the college football scene, I'm afraid I would get lost in the crowd. As for Vanderbilt, I really love the school setting in Nashville, but have heard that it isn't particularly strong in Engineering. I realize this post is kind of disorganized, and that probably reflects my difficulty with this decision. I would like it though if you could help me decide on a school based on the following criteria.

Quality of education for engineering

Professional reputation (what do employers think of it,particularly for engineering)

Social Scene (nightlife, frats, etc.)

Quality of general education

Nationwide reputation

Sports

Intermurals

Based on your criteria I’d say take Texas’s offer. They have one of the best engineering schools in the world. I don’t know why any anyone would choose WashU for any reason other than it’s academic reputation… I rarely hear good things about life there.

If you do get off the waitlist, it’ll be a tough choice. Vandy’s undergrad engineering is ranked like 30th in the US, so it’s still great, but it’s not incredible. It still has a great professional reputation, I know first hand. Still higher ranked than WashU’s which is around 45. It’s incredibly easy to change majors here and Vandy has a great econ department; can’t speak for UT or WashU on these points.

I was admitted to Engineering Honors as UT as well. The honors program has some nice perks, as I remember. I just could not tolerate the size of UT.

Vanderbilt and UT have the better social scene and typical college experience. Vandy might have the better size, but if you are paying in-state tuition at UT that seems like a pretty good deal.

WashU. 2. WashU. 3. Texas. 4. WashU. 5. WashU. 6. Texas. 7. Idk

:(

I have very similar concerns that you do because I am deciding between Texas and WashU

And I agree with what they said ^^ but I’m offered $20,000 a year at washU. That paired with its academic prestige is hard for me to say no to :/

In case anyone was wondering, I did get into Vanderbilt and decided to go there. I picked Vandy for many of the reasons stated above by pancaked. Texas was just to big for me and the students WashU seemed kind of unhappy when I visited. I had a great time when I visited Vanderbilt.

Nice choice :)

Congratulations!

Congratulations, go 'Dores!

I choose Vandy over UT also!
