I am posting this in couple of subforums to get more feedback.

I really don't know where to go.
I plan to major in economics and minor in math, political science. There is also a chance that I will double-major in Finance (Olin) if I go to Washu.

Washu appealing b/c:
-seems to be stronger academically
-more reputable political science program
-easy to double-major (incl. business school)
-better internship / jobs opportunities / grad school placement (?)
-liberal
-better dorms, food then Vandy

Washu turn offs:
-students seem somewhat geeky
-less school spirit
-bad school name, no name recognition relative to rankings

Vandy appealing b/c:
-Nashville
-school spirit
-better social life
-seems almost as good academically as Washu
-good name

Vandy turn offs:
-little things that Washu has an upper hand at (dorms, food)
-prevalence of Greek life

Cost is not a factor (about the same).

Which one would you choose and why ?
Thanks in adavance.

DTan,
I am actually in the exact same boat as you, as in choosing between Vandy and WUStL. Some things I'd like to add to your list...

Another con for WU I would add to your list is that students seem much more stressed than at VU.

Also, for me distance isn't really a factor because I'm from the NorthEast (so they're both far), but if you are closer, it may make a difference.

When I visited VU I noticed that it really is a homogenous student body - white, upper middle class, J-Crew model lookalikes. I'm not sure this is a pro or a con, but something to consider.

Good luck making a decision! I know I could use it.
Rach

PS: Feel free to PM me...nobody else seems to be choosing just between these two on these posts.

If I would have had to make this decisin, I would go with Vanderbilt. If you want a more laid back and fun time while learning, go to Vandy. Needless to say Wash u. has its share of characters and homogeneous groups of people, the cliche is true, you make college what you want it to be.

I have a cousin at Wash U. and a friend or two seriously considering Wash U. My friends like Wash U. for the academics and my cousin is in a Frat and is having a ball while also learning.

Vandy is def a place you want to go if academics is very close in importance to having a fine tuned social life that revolves around the greek system!

Go spend a long weekend at Wash U. My guess is decision gets easier. Congrats on getting in both places.

Wherever you end up, doubling Math and Econ is easy to do. Why make Math a minor?

You have no poor option in your decision. So, you really might want to put some considerable weight into your fit WRT the feel of the each general student body. There are some pretty big differences between the two.
