I want to go to Med school after college and I will be attending a top school next year and becoming a premed. However, I am very good at one sport and I will be playing division I . Will commiting to a varsity sport help, in any way, to my application? I don't want the commitment to hurt my studies

It depends on your grades. If your grades are among the average and your MCAT is among the average, then your commitment to DI athletics will surely put you at an advantage. In what sport are you competing? Some sports require much more than others in terms of travel, season length, games played, etc...

my sport requires about 2 hours of practice 4 times a week .. not including games :/

I don't think you should do this sport if its going to take up as much time as you say it will because being pre-med is almost like a way of life that we choose, but again this is just my opinion.
