I want to apply to Vassar next fall, and I'm wondering how generous Vassar is in awarding athletic scholarships? My GPA is a 3.75 UW and my SAT is 2100. Does it help towards admission and scholarships that I play very competitive serious soccer and my grades are pretty good?

Also, is it hard to balance work along with a sport (men's soccer) at Vassar, because I want to go to medical school and have a psychology or neuroscience major and my GPA can't suffer.
Thanks a lot, all responses are greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry to tell you that Vassar doesn't actually offer athletic scholarships. If you're eligible for financial aid, you can get that, of course. As for whether or not soccer can help your chances: if you're recruited by the coach and he shows a lot of interest in you, it will help. Thus, I would recommend you establish contact with the coach as soon as possible.

Lastly, your question. I'm not an athlete here at Vassar, but I know people who are and they don't seem to have all that much trouble balancing academics and work. As a Division III school, Vassar offers a nice balance between work and study: you're expected to spend time training and practicing for your sport; however, at the same time, there's also an understanding that you're first and foremost a student.

Hey!
I was recruited for soccer...
how serious are you about going to Vassar?

My son graduated from Vassar last spring with a degree in Biology, played baseball and is now a first year medical student. Being on a team was one of his best experiences at Vassar but I know he studied on the bus when his classmates were sleeping. I think he would say it is definitely doable but you have to be disciplined. He LOVED Vassar Athletics!
