1520 SAT, 6/355 in class, 93 UW GPA and 113 W GPA, great essays and recs, ECs a little weak but a lot of commitment to music
I’m really upset because Vassar was probably my top choice. I got waitlisted at Bowdoin and will probably get rejected from Brown and even though I have safeties I just feel like such a failure right now.
@galsc01 I was also accepted into Vassar College from South Carolina(Upstate - Spartanburg). I am a Hispanic male whose parents are also Colombian immigrants(White but grandfather is South Indian) like yours. I honestly didn’t expect to get into Vassar as my stats may seem average to those who have been waitlisted.
GPA - 4.5/6
ACT - 28
Rank - 57/434
Did not visit nor did I interview as one could not be scheduled
Will graduate with 9 APs(Human Geo,World History, Euro,U.S hist.,Chemistry,Physics,English Lang and Lit,Gov.)
150+ hours at the local soup kitchen and as an ESOL tutor for math and chemistry
Unfortunately, I did not apply in time for the financial aid as I thought I had already submitted the CSS profile which I did not but I did submit at the start of March.
@galsc01 As I have been accepted to Wake Forest University, I believe I will end up attending there. Originally, I was deferred from Wake’s ED1 round but was later admitted(yesterday) through their RD round. I love Wake and all but if their offer is not too promising, I may decide on not attending Wake in the Fall. I really hope that the offer I receive will be enough as my parents even struggle to pay(middle class) for my brother to attend Vanderbilt.
@Clethos i wish you the best!! college finances suuuucccckkkk. also, financial letters can be appealed, so maybe wake aid can be improved. im deciding between USC and George Washington so i get the struggle. good luck!!
waitlisted :(( 4.55 wgpa, 1390 SAT (idk why I submitted them), lots of EC’s. i’m gonna accept the waitlist but I’m scared cause i don’t just have 500$ to drop on a deposit if i get in…
@ahardboiledegg - This probably won’t make you feel better right now, but as a parent who has gone through this process four times, I can tell you that to have even been waitlisted at Vassar and Bowdoin shows that you are no failure, and are in fact, an exceptional student and human being.
When my first child applied to college in 2007, I read many articles talking about the unprecedented number of applications that year - and how the numbers would peak by 2011. The articles were wrong. Numbers have continued to climb, as have the average scores of accepted applicants. In the current environment, outstanding GPAs, standardized test scores, and extra-curricular are no guarantee of admission to the more selective schools. More and more is expected of applicants and more and more pressure is being put on you young people. I’m so sorry for the years of pressure and anxiety you have all been experiencing. You have to realize that even being waitlisted is an amazing achievement. With many thousands of applicants, you were among those recognized as being fully capable of achieving at an elite school.
I know that it’s hard to have your dreams crushed, but you will find another dream and you will meet other students as talented as you are in the school you eventually choose to attend. And know that a school’s name is not what leads to success and happiness. I attended an Ivy and can tell you that while I have some classmates who are great successes, there are many others who feel that they are failures compared to their more successful classmates. And I know many people who have attended less elite schools who have very happy and successful lives. Take advantage of opportunities at the school you choose and you will go far.
Waitlisted- 32 ACT, 3.95 GPA. Accepted at Bryn Mawr, Oberlin, Lawrence, and Lewis and Clark; Waitlisted at Macalester and Wellesley; Rejected from Barnard after being deferred ED and Boston University. Only waiting on Reed, will most likely attend Bryn Mawr.
