Your SAT scores add to 1410, @arianasch? Nice job on your acceptance though!
My D was rejected, sadly. She loved the school when she attended a sports camp there but we knew it was a reach because of her test scores. She had good stats with the exception of her scores (3.98 UW, 4.7 W with very challenging curriculum, three-sport varsity athlete, other ECs.). The website says “Vassar requires all applicants to submit standardized test results from either the ACT or the SAT.” I’m surprised to see people say test scores were optional! How did anyone get out of submitting them?
Congratulations to all who got the news they wanted!
I’m sorry about your D. I hope she has other good options.
I think the person who talked about test optional made a mistake. Vassar is NOT test optional. Also Vassar does not have a women’s leadership program. She got into George Washington U. and they are test optional and has a women’s leadership program. I think she copied her info from there and failed to change some details.
@HiToWaMom Ahh, ok, thanks! That makes me feel better. Yes, my daughter has four great options and is narrowing them down now. Vassar was a total reach, as Princeton was for my older daughter. They just applied to see if lightning would strike. It didn’t, unsurprisingly.
@ccoolleeggeess Ugh I’m sorry. I got waitlisted for Vassar but rejected from all my dream schools so far haha. But omggg those are such amazing schools especially Bates!! I hope everything works out for you!
To everybody out there who has been waitlisted: I’m currently a first year at Vassar and I was originally placed on the waitlist for the Class of 2022. Although I don’t know the acceptance stats, and I don’t want to give anyone false hope, just know that it is possible to get off the waitlist!! I deposited at another school by May 1, and told myself that I was going to go there and be happy, and I think I would have been, but I also worked hard to pursue Vassar. I emailed my admissions rep and told her that Vassar was my first choice, I took a second tour of campus, my college counselor called the Dean of Admissions (a friend of his) and talked to him about me, and I also sent an update of my grades and extracurriculars. Though I’m not advising everyone to go to such lengthy measures, and I’m not guaranteeing that you will get off the waitlist, I can say that everything works out the way it is supposed to. I had a rough college process that included numerous rejections and two waitlists, but now I’m at Vassar and I couldn’t be happier. No matter what the result, stay positive!! You are not any less worthy of a student or person for being placed on the waitlist or flat out rejected. College admissions are literally the worst and it sucks that we, as hard-working and college-aspiring students have to go through them, but know that you will get through it. This is not the end of the world. I hope that everyone ends up at a school where they can be happy, because honestly it’s all about taking advantage of opportunities and making the most of your situation, even if it wasn’t originally what you had in mind. Good luck guys!!

I got in and was really excited, but just found out Vassar isn’t going to give me any aid at all. My family flat-out can’t pay even half of the sticker price, but somehow the financial services people determined that we don’t qualify for aid. I had heard good things about financial aid there, so was shocked that the price tag is ultimately what is preventing me from matriculating. There’s no way I can afford to attend, so will have to go to school in my state, but I am devastated that this is the case since I was very excited about Vassar. Is anyone else in this situation?
@mishafreya I’m so sorry!! I’ve heard that Vassar and schools like it can be snakes about financial aid, though I haven’t experienced it personally with Vassar since I was waitlisted
Open question: is it worth it to stay on waitlist? What are the chances?
rejected, but probably should have seen that coming. Here’s a general overview of my application:
Intended major: Computer science (really computer science/English double major with journalism as the career goal)
who am I: white girl from upper middle class coastal Connecticut.
SAT: 1550
ACT: 34
UW GPA: 3.5 W GPA: 4.2
AP Classes: APUSH, Physics 1, Physics C, French, English Lit, Comp Sci, Calc AB, Macro (I would have taken more but you can only really do AP classes junior year at my school)
Extracurriculars: Editor of the newspaper, founder/leader of gun violence group that organized the walkout at my school, founder/president of creative writing club, member of school’s GSA, co-president of Young Democrats, member/webmaster for women in STEM club, member of coding club, member of the varsity math team, did the fall play and spring musical at my school every year, varsity soccer player, varsity fencer/captain of the fencing team, co-founder of app design club, volunteered teaching soccer to differently abled children, volunteered with a local political campaign (also kind of my town’s Democratic committee), ran a personal blog since the seventh grade, National Honors Society Member
(there’s some other smaller stuff that I didn’t include in this list but put on a digital resume that I sent to them)
Essay: 8/10 (I’m a writer but I didn’t write about anything tragic. I think that’s what gets the ad coms. I also considered but didn’t really explain how my grades were influenced by some mental health and family stuff but ya know,)
Rec 1: 9/10 (probably. Done by my junior year Honors Intro to Comp Sci teacher who was also my fencing coach, fencing being my main sport and computer science obviously being my major. Super cool, funny, and nice guy who greatly impacted my life.)
Rec 2: 7.5/10 (again probably. Done by my freshman year English teacher who was also my newspaper advisor. She reignited my love for English and basically appointed me to my position as editor. I trust that she wrote a great rec, but I’m sure colleges just saw it as a freshman teacher and thus a negative.)
Acceptances: Reed, UConn, UVM
Waitlists: Lafayette, American, NYU
Rejections: UNC Chapel Hill, UChicago, Vassar (obviously), Georgetown, Brown, Yale (don’t laugh at the fact I applied to Ivy Leagues–I was sort of pressured into it)
Please disregard my inconsistent grammar/capitalization. I didn’t want to spend too much time on this, but I figured it may be helpful for someone applying next year.
@mishafreya I’m in the same position :////
@gracemcmc Girl how did you not get in?? You definitely deserved to. Also dww about writing about tragic things like I did for UNC and the school didn’t care evidently since I was rejected. You deserve to go to an amazing school though wow
@highkeystressed3 wow thank you so much! it wasn’t really what I was hoping for but I’m trying to keep an open mind. and yeah like no one from my school has gotten into UNC in the past five years so that was sort of a pipe dream
I suppose I will reluctantly post my stats since it might help someone in the future(and also maybe someone could chance me for waitlist?):

I truly believe Vassar practices the holistic view of the admissions processes. Its harder as it is for girls to get in, but being asian on top of that made me very unconfident esp because me test scores were not that top notch. But I showed my passion and involvement through my essays and supplements, and I truly believe that was why I was admitted. Hopefully the financial aid will be good. Vassar 23!!
