Vassar ED1 2025

Well, rejected here. 3.9 UW GPA, 1490 SAT, great essays and recs, lead roles in theater and lots of volunteering for ECs, lots of neat high-caliber creative work sent in for YourSpace. Oh well. Surprised to not at least get deferred. This was by far her first choice, had her heart set on it. Need to fast-track apps to other schools now (and pay all those app fees, ugh!). Huge congrats to those who got in!!

Sure thing. Small town high school, 1410 SAT, 3.8/4.3 GPA, ~15 APs. Not sure how recommendations and essays stacked up against other applicants. I mean, the essays seemed strong to me but I didnā€™t read anyone elseā€™s. Really strong extracurriculars. She wasnā€™t recruited as an athlete, but she was all-district in tennis as a Soph, has done a ton of theater stuff (acting, singing, fight choreography, ran the light board), and just had some creative writing published in October as the major points. Hope thatā€™s helpful!

Iā€™m really sorry to hear that. We were all set to be deferred or rejected and I even took this morning off work to help her with some essays for other applications sheā€™d been struggling with (her school has been virtual all semester and doesnā€™t start until lunchtime).

Your daughter is tremendously qualified, and a great school will be lucky to get her.

My daughter got in. I was so anxious to find out.
Congratulations to those who got in. I found this thread hrs before the decision came out. Thanks !!

@ArlissP Iā€™m so sorry about your daughter. Would she consider applying ED2, perhaps to Wesleyan? Thereā€™s a lot of overlap between Wes and Vassar applicants. FWIW, last year my D was accepted RD to Vassar and rejected from Wes; her BFF got into Wes and was rejected at Vassar, so you never know. They were both theater people. Good luck.

@VA2025Dad Thank you so very much, that is very kind of you to say. Itā€™s so hard to see your kid face such a big disappointment (there were lots of tears) but we did know it was a possibility, just given the odds. Moving forward confident that good things will come. Congrats to your daughter, who sounds terrific!

@gotham_mom Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes, I think next will be to look at ED2 for Wesleyanā€”appreciate the thoughtful insight!

@ArlissP We were in your shoes last year. My D was deferred ED1 from Middlebury and hadnā€™t done much work on her other applications so we didnā€™t have the most festive holiday break. As it turned out, she was accepted to an even longer-shot reach school RD, so things have a way of working out.
Is your daughter applying to Kenyon? We loved it when we visited and took a separate arts tour. Their theater offerings and facilities were impressive and itā€™s a beautiful campus. Some of the loveliest students we know are very happy there.

So sorry to hear this. My D21 with similar stats was rejected at Middlebury over the weekend. We were really surprised she wasnā€™t at least deferred as well. Like your D, mine has to catch up on apps over the next couple of weeks. Ugh.

Parents of accepted ED students, look for the Vassar College Parents Facebook group. And please answer the questions when asking to join.

@ArlissP I hope things are looking up for your daughter. My son was rejected from his ED school a few years ago and it worked out fine for him. It was certainly disheartening, but he is happy where he is.

Thank you so much for the encouraging words! Iā€™m so glad things worked out for your son. We have a bunch of RD applications out now and are hopeful things will turn out well!
