Vassar ED1 Financial Aid

I have a huuge problem. I just realised that the number that I put on the CSS file do not correspond to the ones on the tax return. And I already submitted the css file and i need to send my federal tax return in two days. WHAT DO I DO. PLEAAASE help me.

Call the college and ask.

Do you think that if I send the tax return with a different number it will affect the financial aid package?

Yes.
At most schools the CSS profile you submit needs to be substantiated once you are accepted with documentation. If you filled out the CSS with an income of $60k and your tax return says $125k, yes, that well effect the actual aid that is awarded

Well…you should have also linked your FAFSA to the IRS data retrieval tool and that should have imported the correct tax info, from the 2015 tax return.

Are your parents divorced?

Note to future posters, use your Tex Return info for the CSS Profile, As They Direct You To Do.

thumper1 no but as an international student i’m only required to send the css file not the fafsa. I think im gonna call the college and ask if i can change my css file because of a mistake

Your being an international student changes the answers here. A small suggestion…in the future, put an important detail like that in your original post.

YOU cannot “change” the CSS Profile…there really isn’t any way to do that…unless you print out a copy and write in the changes…and mail it.

Your best bet…contact Vassar financial aid…that is who manages the financial, aid applications, not admissions. See what they say.

What “federal tax return” are you sending? Do you have U.S. income from working in the U.S., or are you referring to a tax return you filed in your own country, that has your translations to English if needed?

As a parent who just made a mistake on a CSS Profile and has to correct it … It’s true that you cannot correct any info on the submitted electronic form, and you have to inform EVERY college that a Profile is submitted to if there is a significant mistake.

Each college financial office will know what is acceptable for them. Usually it’s a printout of the answers for the form with corrected answers written in. Sometimes this can be emailed in a scan, and sometimes has to be physically mailed or faxed.

If the answer to what is acceptable isn’t on the financial aid office’s web site, them emailing or calling them is the only way to find out.

Also, I definitely wouldn’t try to change income tax form figures to match an incorrect Profile. The financial aid offices should be fine with correcting a Profile form, but if any other discrepancies came up it could be a problem.

Thank you all for your answers, I will try to contact the financial aid offices and see with them
