Vassar or Barnard for drama

Any thoughts or insights into the drama departments at these two colleges.

Thanks

I believe that both have strong programs. I have friends that teach at Barnard, all Yale Drama School grads. They all are good at what they do and are strong teachers. I have worked with Barnard grads professionally and was impressed by their intelligence and talent. Barnard will offer you access to Columbia University, and to all of the “perks” that NYC has to offer… museums, professional theatre, dance, music, etc… Not too much of a traditional campus feel in the way a campus outside of the city would have.

Vassar is a beautiful campus with newly renovated facilities. I spent a bit of time there a few summers ago when a friend was working with the professional company in residence during the summer New York Stage and Film. There seemed to be a lot of Vassar students interning at the theatre that summer. The surrounding area to Vassar leave somthing to be desired, but is close to New Paltz, which is lovely. Not too far to get to NYC on the weekend if you choose.

Both great options with different pros and cons.

I would go to Barnard. Wendy Waterman, Rebeca Guy and Ralph Zito who are faculty members at Juilliard also teach there.

Ralph Zito is actually one of the top candidates to become the head of Syracuse’s Drama Dept. and teach Voice as well, so he may not be there for too much longer.

Wow really? Do you think he will get the job. I’m sure he is ready to move on from Juilliard.

I believe he got the job.

Yep! I saw and talked to him yesterday. He is moving up there soon. He is very excited.
