I'm a senior right now and I really can't decide between Vassar and Middlebury for EDII. I know they are both wonderful schools and I'd get a great education either way, but for what I'm thinking to major in (creative writing or lit), I think Vassar may be a better option. Is there anyone with a similar problem, or maybe a student at Vassar who majors in one of these courses and could talk a little about them? Also if anyone did chose Vassar over Middlebury, could they tell me why?

Hi
I’m applying to Vassar EDI, but I’ll be applying to Middlebury if I get rejected. They’re both wonderful schools, but the reason I easily chose Vassar over Middlebury was because of Vassar’s open curriculum. I just love the idea of never having to taking a math class again if I don’t want to, and I also plan to double-major, so the flexibility of an open curriculum would be helpful. That’s just my personal reason, though; the open curriculum might not matter to you. Hopefully someone who actually attends either of these schools will reply to this thread.
Good luck with your decision :)

This is a choice no one can make but you, both are wonderful schools. I would say that for a woman, Barnard has the strongest creative writing program. You can look at the writers they’ve turned out.

S2 loved both Vassar and Middlebury but the stronger music at Vassar won him over. He just felt more comfortable at Vassar although he visited both and could see himself at either. Hopefully you can get in a visit to both schools before the EDII deadline. I think you will know what your true first choice is then.

Vassar is more diverse than Middlebury. Because of its location Middlebury seems to feel more like it is in a bubble. Vassar is a little more artsy. Middlebury’s nickname is “Club Midd” and it does seems to feel a little upscale and exclusive. But the campus is beautiful and it is a great school. You definitely should try to visit before applying ED.
