Vegetarianism at USNA

I don't mean for this thread to come across as offensive in anyway or to start a debate at vegetarianism like it did once before. I just want some input as to anyone who knows or knows of someone who has been through USNA as a veg. I've been one for several years and I'm not looking to change my diet in anyway. I just want some constructive advice as to things that I can have in my room to make sure I'm eating enough and what type of foods are served during Plebe Summer and Ac Year.
Any ideas?

You can get a Diet Chit to pick up food from the diet kitchen in King Hall. There's also a vegetarian menu that serves vegetarian versions of the meal served. ie, today's lunch is burgers...they're serving garden burgers.

Here are some examples of food served:

Tomale Pie, Wild Mushroom Ravioli, Garden burger, Hummus, Garden burger and Naked Ribletts, Potato & Onion Pierogies, Veg. & Bean Chili, Veg Lasagna, Herb Crusted Cutlet

DMeix,

Is it adviseable to do this as a Plebe? Would have been a magnet for unwanted attention in my day. In today's kinder, gentler USNA, I wonder if it will really matter?

Just curious.

there is always pb&j on the tables!!! ;)

My Plebe never saw anyone get unwanted attention for "personal life choices" i.e. diet, religious or political views, church attendance etc...

My daughter ate vegetarian during Plebe summer. She never called it to anyones attention, just made due with what there was. Said there was always pb and J, granola bars, veggies, bread, milk etc. After the brigade reformed I think she got a diet chit. I've looked at the midstore-there seems to be some good alternatives. AND I always brought fresh fruit and veggies when I visited. Once she was out and about in Annapolis, she ate at M's alot, veggie burritos.

Thanks for posting this. I've been wondering the same thing for a while.

OK. Good to hear that diet has joined the list of other things no one cares about. So long as they are healthy, it makes sense no unwanted attention would be received.

Wasn't always that way, though.

yeah if you are a veggie they will give you a diet chit. No big deal, they are very accommodating to that because they have to be. And Zaph not to date you but there weren't many vegetarians back in your day.

LOL. Yeah, that's probably true, too. ;)

Back in my time there weren't any vegetarians or vegans. So I guess that make me really old (as in old fart)!

Nice to see that there are more veg*ns in the military today. I remember that my cholesterol jumped up 20 pts. in 2 weeks at basic training, where you basically (pun intended) had the "Ooh-rah american food" and nothing else.

YES! I just turned vegetarian. Ya'll don't even understand how much **** the USNA gets around here, "THey'll take your soul, you'll foret your heritage, they'll Force you to eat Meat." People out here don't no ****. You people have just made my day & strengthened the chances of me accepcting my appointment.
