Venture Capital - What Major?

I've been reading more about this career path and it really seems like something I'd enjoy. What majors (and useful minors) would be best for this career?

I was thinking some combination of Entrepreneurship, Finance, and Marketing. Any other ideas?

I’d major in Finance and take some Entrepreneurship classes.

Thanks! Anyone else?

Accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, and operations would all be good classes.

Major doesn’t matter.

In fact Finance is not the best major to go with. If VC firm does a lot of IT investments, its better to be IS or CS major.

If VC does Biotech, then you are better off with Bio/Chem major.

In my VC company people have majored in Political Science, English, Econ, Marketing, Communications, IS, and Engineering.

I am finance major though.

All I can say is that if you want to do VC, you better make extremely good grades and be willing to put in some years in another job before you can transition into it.

A common path is to do investment banking for a couple of years on the “sell” side, go back to get an MBA to change career paths, and then move into VC after attending a top MBA program.

Some can skip the MBA program and move straight into private equity from Ibanking.

These are some of the most competitive jobs in the world–so prepare yourself.
