I think they are all applying to Miami Ohio.

Well, feel free to add whatever you want to this forum. However, there is a problem in attacking “the point I was trying” to make, namely that I made no point whasoever. Yes, no point. No conclusions. Just the data! What I did is provide one compilation of a set of numbers. Something I have done on this forum for a number of years. You got all bent out of shape because my terminology did not espouse your own, and went to scout the web for “proof.” Instead of simply realizing that a different spelling makes quite a difference!

Please note when I am “trying to make a point” I am pretty clear about it.

Why would facts represent an inconvenience to me?

Lolololol goldenboy8784 seems genuinely offended because an anonymous poster on a online public forum excluded 2 universities from the list.

What makes that a fact? That a few journalist and marketing groups said that Duke and Stanford are “Ivy League Plus?” No, that’s their opinion based on the selectivity, endowment, and affiliation. There is no such official group called the “Ivy League Plus” as exists say the Ivy League and the Seven Sisters colleges.

Speak for yourself, why don’t you - what (besides incredible chutzpah) gives you the right to claim to speak for the entire CC community?

xiggi, In the thread goldenboy started about UVa and Michigan, you advised a poster earlier today that if the strategy of goldenboy is so transparent “why lower yourself to counter it in a battle of non-sense.” It might not be a bad idea to follow your own advice. Trying to engage goldenboy in any meaningful exchange seems useless.

You should have issued a beverage alert with this one. :D

Is there an admission charge for this thead or are the laughs for free?

"Trying to engage goldenboy in any meaningful exchange seems useless. "
I agree. he’s now on my ignore list, along with another poster on this thread.

no, all are welcome! It is a hoot!

Did I get here too late? I heard there were beverages.;)

Xiggi is committing treason. He left out Rice from his home state.

I only have ten fingers to count on.

"Why don’t you come back in 20 years when you’re a parent and have some experience that perhaps gives you something to say that may be of value to others on CC. Right now all I detect is huge sense of your own self importance and an itch to pick a fight. Neither is of value here. So in the meantime,I suggest you find another forum where you can post your “facts’.”

What a great paragraph. I need to save that somewhere where I can quote it again, when it comes in handy. How silly to make such an issue because one’s favorite school is not mentioned.

“Speak for yourself, why don’t you - what (besides incredible chutzpah) gives you the right to claim to speak for the entire CC community?”

And what a ridiculous comment from a parent. Kind of missing the point. Apparently it would have been soooo much better if instead of the statement, “The CC community, especially those of us here on the parents forum could not care less what you say,” was phrased as “some of us in the CC community…”

Yeah, emeraldkity, you’re going to need those beverages to get you through some of this!

Couldn’t some of the numbers merely be regression to the mean?

Bottom Line: If you went to the doctor and he told you you had cancer, but not to worry because he knew this great treatment that had a six percent success rate, you’d still find yourself screaming: Oh my God, I’m dying.

Just saying.

I have been toying with using a line like Momzie for the silly “chances” threads: “You will not be admitted to Yarvardtonford. My predictions are accurate at the 94% level.”

It’s never too late. :)

But really, we ought to nominate MOWC for the One-Liner Award. I’m still chuckling. It was just so very elegant. So Lady Violet.

Can I quit my day job?

The issue here is that xiggi created a thread for the purpose of making a statement about the flattening out of applications at Ivies Plus without considering that the two (or three if you include Caltech) other closest non-Ivies in desirability to the Ancient Eight reported significant application increases.

So applications may be flat at Ivies Plus…but applications overall experienced nontrivial growth at The Ivy League Plus.:D

GB - a suggestion from the peanut gallery … I would guess it would have taken you less time to look up and add the data for your two schools than it took to be combative and to research “proof” of your position … in addition, I seriously doubt anyone would have jumped in and argued that Duke and Chicago should be excluded from the discussion … it sure seems to be me an easier way to include them in the discussion would have been to include them in the discussion.
