Versatility of an economics major?

I've been doing some research, and I can't decide whether finance or economics would be a better major in college. Some say economics is incredibly versatile, so can it be competitive for all the same jobs as a finance major?

Honestly it probably doesn’t make too much of a difference it the long run. Depends on what you want to do. I feel that finance (and I’m talking about upper level classes like: CorpVal, Fixed Income/Derivatives) might give you a slight edge going into an internship, but for the most part econ gives you a better training b/c I assume in most school the intermediate/upper level classes involve a fair bit of math and critical thinking (especially if you don’t decide on banking/sales/trading).
