So lately my grades have been dropping, from a variety of factors (senioritis, classes getting harder, etc.) I am starting to get really scared about what could happen if I dont bring them up. Thankfully I still have one quarter left to raise them.

Here's whats up.

AP Calculus- D or F (grade shows 69 percent, but teacher hasnt put in bad test grade yet)
AP Physics- Has to be an F. Teacher never posts grades and he has only put down 2 or 3 tests which I did poorly on
Literature and Film- A or B, not bad here.
AP Art History- A
Government- most likely a B, possibly A

Im hoping that these grades change for the better, but I am still afraid. What could happen to me if they dont go up?

A few notes. Those two Fs aren't required for me to graduate, I already have all my credits. I would be willing to take the courses again over summer or go on academic probation (I think that is what it is called) for my first semester.

Does the fact that they are APs change anything? The classes are just getting to be unbearable for me. And it doesnt help that I used to be in the easiest economics class last semester and now I am in a gov class which is pretty much AP. I spend more time studying for that class than all others combined.

My GPA went up during my second semester, but my class rank also dropped significantly - mostly due to other students dropping out. It didn’t affect my acceptance or scholarships, though.

Of course, that’s not quite so similar to your situation… thought I’d offer up what I could, though. I think your best bet would be to contact admissions and ask them directly.

Straighten up and fly right. Go to your teachers NOW and tell them what is happening. This is going to happen in college too. You have to know how to deal with adversity and admit your mistakes or you won’t make it at UT.

I’m worried about the same thing…but my math grade dropped from a B to a C…which isn’t quite as bad because my other grades mostly stayed the same (some a little higher than last semester, some a bit lower…)

good luck! (but really, why did you take such challenging courses if you can’t even pass them? I have senioritis too, but I’m not making F’s…I would get those grades up or switch out asap. why didn’t you just take the standard course? those AP classes are a lot of work! I wouldn’t be able to handle Calc or Physics AP either!!)

hope to see you at Texas in the fall I bet if you get your grades up (to at least C’s!!) you’ll be alright. I don’t think they pay too much attention to your grades after you’re accepted, but F’s would look pretty bad.

My advice to you would be to drop them, but take the AP exams anyway. They won’t care at all that you dropped them, but Calc and Physics are so nice to have out of the way at UT.

I also had this fear, but I also suspect that UT is just too big to really care. My grades dropped a full GPA point. I think you should be fine!

Ok, well here’s a little update on the situation. Those 2 physics tests that I failed… well thank Jesus my teacher curved them. The lowest grade he gave out on both was a C, so thankfully I got 2 Cs instead of 2 Fs. I was basing my grade above solely on those (he assigns us a ton of hw and never collects it) because the tests are the only things in the gradebook. So I don’t believe that I have an F, I am 95 percent sure my grade is now either a C or D in physics. Our Quarter grades are released next week, so I should know for sure then.

In math, things are going a little better. That test that a ton of people did poorly on… our teacher is letting us retake part of it. The best grade I can get on it is a 69 percent, but I’ll take that over the F I had on it before. Hopefully I improve, the retake is tomorrow.

Things are starting to get brighter, even if it only is by a small amount. Oh, and my Gov grade is a solid B.

Here’s how things look now.

Ap Calc- D
AP Phys- C or D
Lit and Film, A or B
AP art hist- A
Gov- B

I thought for everyone: 90-100=A, 89-80=B, 79-70=C, and everything else is failing…I don’t see how that could vary but whatever…just do your best to get those grades up, but I think it would take a lot for them to rescind your acceptance.

A friend of mine told me that last year a girl failed her IB English course, but didn’t get rescinded from UT.

I had the same fear, since I’m failing AP BC Calculus (I’ve given up any and all hope of bringing up that grade), but I’m hoping and praying that my situation will be the same as the girl my friend mentioned.

I also don’t need Calculus to graduate, as I already have enough math credits from taking Algebra in 8th grade.

@eaglemom Uh… thanks for bragging about how hard your son’s school is I guess…?

Anyways, my friend last year who went to UT had like 3 Fs in European History, Calculus and Physics. He was like rank 10/492 before he sucked it up senior year so… Maybe he just got lucky and didn’t get rescinded. Or maybe you guys shouldn’t worry too much about it. Idk. I would at least attempt to bring it up to a D lol.
