very confused about private and public school.

okay so heres my story. i went to public school all the way up to 10th grade. In 9th grade i did OKAY pretty mediocre with an average of maybe an 85..I transfered to a private catholic hs for 10th grade and did really well with an average of an 95. I really did not like the private school at all, it was an hour away, the people were shallow and boring, and i missed my friends. All though the private school was 5 times easier i am now very confused if i should go back to my public school or stay at my private school. My family is saying i should stay at my private school because it doesn't make sense to keep switching. And i agree with that, its just that i think that if i have any negative feelings towards the school after going for a whole year i shouldnt make myself suffer. if i could maintain the same grades and my public school what would the difference be?.....many advocates of me going to private school are saying that colleges are going to think i cant stay in one place and won't want me at their college.
PLEASE HELP.....i really need some great advice.

This is a hard one, but I am +1 for Private school.

Remember, this is only High School, and many of those friends at your old school will not carry over in college. When it comes to friends at the private school, just open up to them, join clubs, be social.

Grades, along with Test scores, are the most important part of applying to college, and unless you want to go to a not-so-great school, I think you should rethink things. You did not do well at the public school, but well at the private, so, obviously, the private school will help you get into a better college.

I think you need to prioritize your life. What is more important to you? Your friends at your old school or your chance at a 2nd possibly 1st tier schools? I know which one I would pick, but it is all up to you which path you want to pursue.

Just my 2 cents.

Think in the long term. What would colleges think about you switching to school and switching back?

Don't worry about what colleges will think. Worry more about what's good for you. Even though the private school is easier grades-wise, do you think that you're getting a better, more personalized education? Do you think that you're learning more than you would in public school? If not, it would be a good idea to switch back. In fact, you could even write your college essays about how you didn't feel challenged in private school, blah blah blah, without attacking the school itself.

Personally, I'd stick with the private school just because I think it would be too chaotic to switch back and forth. Sure, you didn't like it this year, but if you stick it out, you could probably find people who aren't "shallow and boring" -- you can't be the only one! :) But if there are really no benefits to going to that school, and your parents aren't TOO opposed to your switching (after all, it'd save them money!), there's no reason to stay.

Also, did you move to go to the school, or do you just have an hour commute? If missing your friends is a huge deal and you still live near them (and even if not!), take an active role in planning time to hang out with them. They might not realize how much you miss them. Send out a massive facebook message planning a party or just going to a movie with a big group of your HS friends. :D

your decision should not be based on friends. what if your friends change and stop being your friends? then your move was pointless. HS friends rarely last your whole life so I say stay at the private

soo thanks guys for responding. and i had a feeling everyone would be all gungho for the private school.
the classes i would be taking in both the schools also should matter right. in public school i would take : AP US, AP LIT, Chem H, Math 3H, Forensics, Spanish 4, Science Research, and possibly AP Environmental (: the class for environmental is currently filled up, but it MAY open up. )
in private school i would take : AP US, AP LIT, CHEM, MATH 3H, Spanish 4, Morality, Film studies...( Note : i could take AP BIO instead of CHEM but that would bump me out of taking MATH 3 H.)

also... in my public school i would run track both seasons because its totally more laid back and " easy" in my private school however since the team consists of 20 people its very competitive and that just not how i like to do a sport. so i wouldn't do track in private but i would in public.

also. ..... i have to decide asap because so far this summer i have been doing summer work for both schools.....

You sound like you prefer the public school vastly. If track's really important to you, take the public/private different into consideration. Otherwise, your education and overall success at a school should be a bigger part of the decision. Remember that switching is a big pain, and a red flag to colleges.

darn it, i switched schools after 9th grade
exactly what kind of a red flag does it raise for colleges????

Well I'm talking about switching back and forth (like the OP is considering), in which case you'd seem like you couldn't focus and succeed in any one place. But switching schools once, whether for moving or just to go to a better school, is totally fine! Sorry to scare you.

is switching schools after sophomore year a bad idea?

^ It is not the best idea, if you can help it. But, if you gotta move, you gotta move. The question the adcoms would ask though, is why you switched.

^best school in the city, smaller class sizes, more IB course selection

are those good reasons?

so the constant switching is gonna be that bad. what if i wrote my college essay on how all thought the private school was good because i did well but was limiting me because i felt that the classes were easy and i was striving to my potential. and bull like that. how do you think that would look, kinda interesting i think. and also how their offer LIKE 5 ap classes when my public school offers like 20. So does everyone think that would be a good idea if i do decide to go back to public??!!
