sorry for the lenght of the post, but please read!

Okay - so, I am a Junior currently enrolled in a Private School, that is, in my opinion not worth its money. For Senior year, I prefer myself to go to Public School. Now the twist...

In my current private school, I am taking the best offered classes of the school, which is a great thing for applications to colleges. But the school is not a great school for its money (alot of money too), screwed me over with courses, as well as AP courses (labeled AP course, but didn't follow outline.. result? couldn't take the AP test).

Now.. in public school, I would probably be taking as many AP classes available, but my previous courses taken would probably look as if its an average student at a public school. Do colleges notice or acknowledge the fact that i transfered schools?.. Does any decision affect my college outcomes?

What do you guys think? Should I transfer to public school, or stay in private?

colleges would know that you transferred schools, it should be fine

I was kinda in the same situation. Private school wasn't worth it, in my opinion, but my parents wouldn't let me go anywhere else. My AP Euro class sucked, the teacher didn't even teach. I didn't do well on the AP test.

But we moved, so I'm in public school now. I like it better, my classes seem better too. Chemistry is much more advanced in public school than it was in private. I was actually behind in chemistry. Plus, I'll be taking a full AP/honors schedule next year, whereas I might not be able to in private school, some of the courses weren't offered at my old school.

But I hit a little snag transferring from private to public. Public schools (atleast in my state) require two years of PE. My private school only required one. I might be able to take independant study next year, but I might have to cut AP bio if I can't.

So, does the public school have any requirements that you would need to take? Like PE? You need to find that out before you transfer, because that might cut out a class that you need or want to take.

Also, be aware that your new GC might not be as helpful as your GC in your private school.

But, my opinion, transfer if you want too :)

Do you like private school? Wont you miss your friends?

Transferring during your senior year is very hard. you have to start the whole "meeting" ppl phase and getting use to the environment. Senior year in my school is funniest year of my HS career and I dont want to leave it for another school.

If money is a huge issue for your family, then by all means transfer. But otherwise I think you should stay. You would be leaving your friends, teacher, and the environment. And It is a hard transition.

I wouldn't suggest you transferring to another school for your senior year (I would've done that earlier, prior to junior year) I dont think it would change a lot for you, especially when it comes to having colleges seeing better things from you in a short term. Remember that your junior year is extremely important and your junior year however has already been spent in the private school. All that you will learn and show to colleges will be mostly during the fall of your senior year at the new public school and it's very short term. Besides you only have the fall to take your SAT I and SATIIs whichever you have left and only at that time. I don't see how transferring to a new school will prepare you for any of these testings (perhaps beside the APs which will take place next year again) within several months of the fall term. Besides, I think you will find it hard to fit in to a new school, especially on your senior year when most seniors already have their own group of friends, etc. I met several people from my school who transferred here at the beginning of their junior year and they found a hard time adjusting to the people here because they hang out in their own groups. It's not a matter of exclusiveness but it's realistic that people, who have been together for so long in highschool, prefer the others company. So coming in as a new senior might not offer you the kind of happiness you'd want in your old school. (but then I dont know how you feel socially in your now school so I cant say for sure)

Transferring schools is very hard. I had to do that this past year (although it was not from private to public) and it was very difficult getting use to the curriculum, surroundings, and people.

If this private school is really leaving a hole in your wallet and if you don't mind the sudden change, then go for it. If I were in your shoes though, I would stay in the same private school just for one more year. It is too much of a hassle starting over and adjusting somewhere else. Trust me.

thing is, i have friends in the public school, so it's not that much of a big deal.. plus, all i want to do is go to school, attend class, and leave.
