Following is a math prob I got wrong. It looks so easy but I'm still having difficulty finding the answer. May be I'm interpreting the sentence wrong or sth. Help me out, guys. ( number line probs suck)

7) On the number line, point P has coordinate 1/2, and point Q has coordinate 2. If point R is 1/4 of the way from P to Q, what's the coordinate of R?

A. 3/4
B. 7/8
C. 1
D. 9/8
E 5/4

Thanks in advance :)

How long is the way from 1/2 to 2? It is 1.5 in length.

What is 1/4 of 1.5? 0.375.

Therefore, the coordinate of point R is 1/2 + 0.375 = 0.875 or 7/8. B.

i guess im not doing it wrong. this is easy.

distance between P and Q=2-0.5=1.5
one fourth of 1.5 is 3/8
so to find coordinate of R(since it starts from P and moves towards Q), add coordinate of P with one fourth of the distance between P and Q.

so we have, 0.5 +3/8= 7/8

so the correct option is (b).

hope it helps.

Thank you so much, guys I always ended up having 3/8. Now I understand it :)

yeah best of luck. just try and think analytically.
