hey guys!
I am a soph and my tutor wants me to take the SAT in one month with or without prep. so that I won't be swamped with tests next year. I am hesistating because I want to score well and go to an upper UC or low tier ivy. Opinions? (and soon..the deadline is in 3 hours)

thanks :]

I say go for it because for Ivy schools you can take the test up to 3 times without hurting your chances.
Taking it your soph. year will greatly give you a feel for the SAT and help you become more experienced.

It won’t hurt you so take it and do your best.

BTW, that’s when I’m taking the SAT.

GL

same. idk, your choice. it would give u experience, but personally i want to do the best i can each time. not just to see where i am.

I am a sophomore too and I am taking the math 2 subject test next month. But I don’t think I can be ready for sat I by next month. I wish.

you can always cancel your score

you just have to pay for it as the fee waiver do not come in till Junor YR

hmm i am a soph and i took it last october (beginning of soph). . .. . idk if its a wise decision. I took it to see where i stood and how it felt to take it. I did get the feel of it and after taking it, i knew what parts i had most trouble with. It definitely was beneficial although i did extremely poorly. I found out that i needed to increase my reading speed cuz i wasted too much time reading the stories! So go for it.

Do it, but do some prep before, other wise it will just be a waste of a saturday. At least do one simulated test conditions taking, that would be my advice. That way, there is a much better chance of you not making dumb mistakes, like getting stressed out, going way to fast/slow, and ending up with worthless sophomore year scores that you don’t want to send anywhere.

Quicksandslowly- I want to ask you about the

“I say go for it because for Ivy schools you can take the test up to 3 times without hurting your chances.”

Years ago, I had heard that rule. My son and his friends were then applying to colleges and one friend was in the 3 time test taking situation. I remember hearing that he did not go for more than 3 because “it would hurt him”. Remembering that rule, I mentioned it to a co-worker whose daughter is planning for the multiple test takings with the benefits of Superscoring in mind. She then mentioned it to the school guidance councilor, who stated that there is no number that beyond which a students scores would be harmed. That it was just up to the students willingness to take and the parents willingness to pay. Now I see your post which refers to what I had originally heard. Can you tell me what you understand about this?

^ I’ve heard multiple times that taking the SAT more than 3 times can harm your college application. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you more than that because I don’t know much about it myself!

Technically, the colleges do say “you can take the SAT as many times as you want and we only super score (look at highest from each section from any sitting),” but think about it. When they get your transcript, they do superscore but they also get to see ure scores from each sitting. When they look at how Joe Shmoe took the test 6 times, they might feel biased against the kid on the spot. Even though they arent suppose to be, they just might be because of so many test repeats and they never have to show it. They can simply say “rejected” and will never have to explain why even if its because of the 6 SATs. So be careful.

I think I am going to take it after the summer to help me prepare. Thank you guys so much for the responses

Tokenadult - Thank you for that link. A very interesting read.
