should i take another SAT or not : /

im a rising senior and i already took the SAT 3 times junior year, all of which wernt that great (1870 best)....this really limits the colleges i wanted to get into so im wondering if i should take another SAT this october/november or not. At first i didnt want to because i thought it would look bad so i havnt studied at all so far during the summer but ive been thinking about it more and more and.....i really want to raise my score but im worried that i might end up with another crap score. what should i do? any advice?

whens the last time a senior can take it to get it in time for collge applications?^^

o and yea. I mean if you really want to improve your score go ahead its just that you need to work hard

idk…ive been “working hard” for 2 years for SAT and nothing really happened…i went through many websites, peoples testimonies, books, etc. yet my scores didnt improve significantly so im worried even if i try studying again that id just be wasting money

The college counselors I know don’t recommend taking the SAT more than 3 times. They say that colleges view students who keep taking the SAT as score-obsessed, and they count it against you. Unless, you’re crushing your practice tests and raising your score by 200 points, I wouldn’t take it again.

hmm ok thanks prestige  then i guess all i can rely on are my other parts of my application

Are you scoring at 600+ in all three areas or are they lopsided?

You may want to try ACT to see how you do in that test. Colleges put equal value on either test and in some cases more value on ACT with writing since they waive two SAT IIs in some colleges if you take ACT with writing.

high 600s for math and writing, low 500s for CR…yikes…

ehhh idk though, are you suggesting i just take it without any prep just to see what i get? or prep and everything, then take it

I have heard that taking it more than 3 times is bad. I have also heard that it is a hoax and a person can take it as many times as they want. In the end you can choose to send certain scores as I’ve heard and colleges like to see improvement and dedication, BUT not obsession!

I advise 3 as a max, 4 as a “im sure i can score higher; im willing to bet the life of my someday first born”.

You should prep a bit if you are taking ACT and see how you score on a full practice test to see if you do better than SAT. You have an opportunity to take ACT in September.

well before i wana commit to ACT, how different is it from SAT? all i know about it is that it has reading, writing (optinal), math, and science. I have no idea what subjects they cover of if they go by a time limit or how many sections/questions.

Get hold of an ACT practice guide and take a look at it. The sections (Reading, English, Combined English/Writing (optional), Math and Science) are timed. Some do better on ACT, some on SAT, some equally well.
