Villanova life?

Hey, I am a southern male from TN and I was curious if someone from the south could fit in at a school like this. Both my father and grandfather went to Villanova and I have visited there several times and I liked it a lot but I just wasn't sure if I would be out of place or not.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

Alot depends on you.
Are you an outgoing and open minded person , if so you should be fine.
If you are an introvert , being outside your comfort zone may be difficult.
Villanova’s geographic diversity is improving , so you will find others from the south and midwest , but it remains primarily a northeast and mid Atlantic university.

If you play sports at any level you will surely make many friends at Villanova , it is a very athletic campus.
The housing structure with almost all freshman on South campus also helps in building friendships and creating a great environment for freshmen to bond and build relationships.

I’m a pretty open-minded person and I’m really into athletics. I actually got a chance to see the Villanova football team play in Chatanooga a couple weeks ago and I was pretty impressed with their team… But all that aside I feel that I can fit into almost any community, but I just wasn’t sure of what the people at Villanova were like because i’ve never really gotten a chance to meet anyone from there except my dad and grandfather.

No, I am introverted and I fit in fine.

bluewords: but are you from tenn ?

Is Tennessee in America?

Footballace1 question was if a student from the south would feel out of place, a legitimate concern.
As you know, almost all students at Nova are from Northeast America , but relatively few are from TN or the deep south.
As an introvert ,I am glad that you fit in fine , but it may have been different if you went to University of Tennessee or University of Georgia where the out of state enrollment is less than 15%.
I know a freshman at the University of South Carolina that is transfering out because he is out of his comfort zone in Columbia South Carolina.
There are many Americas in these great United States.

My daughter is a sophomore at Villanova and is from Tennessee. She absolutely loves it, is very involved on campus, and has had no problems fitting in at all! I sent you a private message with more info. Feel free to contact me.

ahhhhhh i have a friend from tennessee! he’s awesome. definitely come here you guys are super nice and will fit in just fine :)

if you like i can ask him to maybe write a few things for you just send me a message

I’m not from TN, but I’m also curious about how easy it is to make friends for a student who isn’t from PA, NJ, or NY.

I’m from Ohio, and even though I’m very social and outgoing, I’m kind of worried that the atmosphere will be hard for non-East Coasters.

haha no worries you’ll be just fine. ppl will prob be relieved to know you aren’t from the area. usually it’s, oh lemme guess, are you from jersey? it’s not like kids get cliquey all the freshman are pretty open to making new friends cept those who’ve come with like 5 other kids from their school. even so, no one’s going to judge you if you’re not from the east coast. it’s just usually a convo starter when you trade numbers and it’s 201 or 918 cuz then ppl are like HEY I’M FROM JERSEY TOO!!

no “state cliques” whatsoever. and if someone says they’re from Jersey, like my roommate, just tell that person that Jersey sucks and it’ll end the convo. that’s what i do (jokingly of course)

North Jersey sucks.

I’m from Texas so I am having the same concerns!
I think I’m more scared of the people than the environment. Southerners are so different from people in the Northeast so it will definitely take getting used to.

lol yup sccrjamie is right on with the “we hate jersey” aspect at this school… which is funny since so many kids are from jersey… but most of them “hate” jersey too. not seriously though.

Funny story== I’m in Paris in a high end, boutique hotel, I chat w/ people in the elevator thinking wow-- they must be from Belgium, London, etc. nope-- NJ & they live in my same home town, 2 miles away… NJ is the mosty densley populated state in USA-- there’s no escaping us.

we’re sophisticated, smart, witty, motivated, intellectual as well as we’re immigrants, crude, rude & dull. Sorry-- it’s a big place.

i get what you’re saying i moved to connecticut from alabama when i was a junior and there are some pretty intimidating northeasterners. but everyone at nova is so nice it was nothing like when i moved in high school. you have nothing to worry about and like someone already said youll stick out! it defnitely is a convo starter when people are like wow what area code is that? plus since alabama won the bcs championship this year, thats an added topic to discuss ;)
