I am thinking about applying to villanova as my target/reach and i dont know if i will fit in there. I am a muslim but not that religious. I would want some diversity in the school and i dont want everyone who is like me. I would say i have a pretty laid back personality. My dream school is brown, which i doubt im going to get into. I am really torn because i like villanova and would major in liberal arts, but would i fit in on campus?

Umm… I have no clue, I’m a freshman this year, and I kind of decided to go to Villanova without much research or even a visit, however, I don’t think being Muslim is going to hurt. I mean, I don’t really follow any religion, and I’m also Korean… But I was never into dressing preppy, or w.e… Just a flannel, some nice pants and a pair of vans and i’m good to go.

I honestly don’t think it’ll matter what you dress or look like, there will always be people willing to accept you no matter what school you go to.

It’s hard to say if you will “fit in.” Nova is 80% white, but that’s not to say you wouldn’t fit in, but be preapred for that because the “whiteness” of the campus threw me off when I visited. With 6,000 undergrads there is bound to be some people you want to hang out with.

If you don’t fit in , it won’t be about what color or religion you are.Racism and bigotry are not characteristic of Villanova student body.
You will fit in if you are open minded , and outgoing. You wont fit in if you hide in your dorm room , don’t make friends in class and residence hall or reluctant to join clubs and activities.

Villanova’s freshman retention rate of 95% is among the highest in the country and is an indication of satisfaction with the freshman experience.

If going to a school with a white majority student body is a problem , cross these off your list:

White student body: BC 68% ,Georgetown 65%, Notre Dame 72%,Delaware 77%,Penn State 75%,Loyola Md. 79% ,TCNJ 66%, Lehigh 72%,Bucknell 77%,Wake Forest 77%, Providence 76% ,Villanova 78%

Again , give yourself and your fellow freshman some credit.
You will be going to school with smart , accomplished , cool kids.

Yes the white majority is relevant for many schools. I didn’t mean to make it sound just like a Nova thing. Coming from a school where only 1/3 of the student body was white, I was surprised to see the lack of diversity.

Good luck! There will be people you will fit in with at any school… you just have to find them.

Hi Ssheik. I’m currently a freshman here at Nova. The students at Nova are pretty much like college students you would find anywhere else, more willing to talk about sports, TV shows, hobbies, and gossip rather than religion and politics. From what I have seen from my 2 weeks here is that there isn’t much of an emphasis on religious or ethnic background. Students from Villanova generally come from strong religious backgrounds (mostly catholic or christian), so they know you shouldn’t discriminate against anyone in any way because of their race or religion. It’s kind of strange, because the student body is so catholic and religious, it allows for greater tolerance towards those of different faiths.

Not to mention that our Freshman class is by far the most diverse class. They didn’t release the official statistics yet but I would estimate that the percentage of caucasian students for our class is less than 70%.
