Villanova Pre Med

Hey guys,
I'm goin to 'Nova next year for Pre-med. All my life I have wanted to be a doctor and I really want to go to 'Nova. However, I haven't heard outstanding things about Villanova's Premed program. I know that Villanova's business school and engineering school is very good, but are my chances at med school diminished because I'm going to 'Nova for med school....

And while I'm addressing the question, does it really matter what undergraduate school you go to as long as you get good grades and do well on the MCAT's? Everyone at my high school now is stressing how important a good pre med program is and how great their college is in pre med, and I'm starting to get stressed.

I still think it is up to the student whether or not they get to go to med school...not the college...

Anyway, if you guys could lend your opinion on Villanova's Pre Med program, that'd be great. Thanks so much

I attended a nice presentation by Villanova this weekend on Pre professional advising.
The professor was a straight shooter.
GPA , Mcats , industry exposure , recommendation , interview skills , and commitment to career field were his keys to Medical School Admission.
If you are a strong candidate , you will get into medical school and you wont have to be a biology major.

From Villanova web site: [Common Myths About Majors & Careers](<a href=“COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS AND SCIENCES | Villanova University”>COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS AND SCIENCES | Villanova University)

“Myth #3: You must take specific undergraduate majors in order to get into law school, medical school, or business school.
Fact: While some professional schools require or recommend the completion of certain academic prerequisites, in most cases no specific major is required. In other instances, only broad skills are sought, e.g., the ability to read and write well and to think critically. In short, you may major in any of a wide variety of academic fields and go to various professional schools. Humanities majors, for example, have higher acceptance rates to medical schools than do biology majors. For additional information, please go to the Health Professions web site. “I can think of no better preparation for law school than a rigorous, mentally challenging major in the Humanities.”

In short , don’t stress , you are thinking this properly.

Villanova’s premed program= definitely prepares you.
No question about it—Take that from a fellow biology/pre-med major.

Definitely harder than other schools that place more emphasis on “pre-med” anyway, which is advantageous in the long run for us anyway. In the end, we are rewarded with nice curves though for our hard work. Definitely amazing quality of education. I learned so much in both General Bio and General Chem this past year.

Seriously, search “Health Professions” in the search box for the Villanova website and it will lead you to a WEALTH of information :)

thank you very much…i really appreciate the reassurance and i’m sure i’ll be very happy in the pre med program last year…As i said, my only concern was not seeing any nationally acclaimed credentials and stuff…

I just want to make sure it will give me a good shot at getting into med school…thanks
