@RKmom2 . Your article is out dated (2015). My D has applied and accepted to at least one of the schools you mentioned. I can assure you that your statement is incorrect.
Not to mention from your own article…
“Just remember this: even if a school meets 100% of your “demonstrated financial need,” this doesn’t mean you get to attend for free. It just means that the school has put together a financial aid package that covers 100% of your need. This package could include gift aid (like grants and scholarships), as well as work-study and student loans that you will have to pay back.”
@college dad 2B perhaps you misunderstood, I’m was not referring to colleges that meet 100% of need. I was referring to need-blind colleges, those that do not take the student’s financial need into consideration when deciding whether to accept a student.
D waitlisted at VSB. 1470 SAT. 3.83 UW. Very good EC, etc. took college classes all through HS. But, we need Fin Aid and I’m guessing it’s a pay to play situation, which makes me feel like throwing up.
@Mass_mom villanova is need blind, which means they don’t take into account an applicant’s finances when considering their application. the only way it could be pay to play is if you use that money for tutoring and tests and stuff to get better scores, or if you donate a ton to the school, but not for the actual application
@college dad 2B I’m not quite sure what statement you are making. BC, HC, Georgetown and Fordham each state on their websites that they are need-blind. PC does not specifically state it on their website but they are shown on every need-blind list that I have come across.
I combed through Villanova’s website and could not find anything about whether the school is need-blind. Schools that are need-blind will typically advertise that fact since that is an enticement for financially-challenged students to apply.
Congrats to all accepted! My S was accepted and was on campus Sun-Monday and fell in love. It was his #1 and a trip to campus, I think, sealed the deal…Best of luck to all…Oh, and they met with a Fin Aid officer who said official packages are out by April 1. Being Easter, that more than likely means sometime this week.
Villanova is need aware, but it doesn’t drastically effect admissions outcomes. I had an average profile and needed a lot of aid (40k) and was accepted. They also met 100% of my need. The idea that all ED applicants are rejected is they’re not full pay is crazy.
@a20171 Yeah very true! My friend and I had applied to VSB. We had like similar EFC and needed about 80% aid. We also had very similar stats. I got accpeted but he did not get into VSB. So, financial aid doesnot affect your admissions!
After noticing this thread of comments, Villanova’s Office of University Admission wants to assure you that we are and have always been committed to a need-blind admission process for domestic students. A family’s ability to pay has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on any decision.
Please know, however, that we are need-aware for international students, which is common practice among colleges and universities.
